Turkey Terror Bombing Kills 26 People

ISTANBUL, Turkey - Trucks packed with explosives blew up at a London-based bank and the British consulate Thursday, killing at least 26 people and wounding nearly 450. The worst terrorist bombing in Turkey's history coincided with President Bush's trip to Britain and were blamed on al-Qaida.

Security forces were put on the highest alert after the blasts at the high-rise headquarters of the HSBC bank and the British consulate occurred five minutes apart at about 11 a.m.

Among the dead was British Consul-General Roger Short, the Anatolia news agency quoted U.S. Ambassador Eric Edelmankey as saying.

The blasts followed a pair of synagogue bombings Saturday that killed 23 people, plus the two bombers.

Saturday's snowfall of 11.9 inches in Boston tied the previous record for a single day in December set in 1981, according to the Weather Service.

Good morning! Well we sure got the snow! LOL But God had the wind blow it  off my roofs. Thank you! The snow is almost 6 feet and is in some spots. I'll be snowed in for a couple of weeks but I have food and wood so I am fine. The lights stay on and that's a blessing. Thank you for prayer. Please pray they get my road open as that would be nice. Suicide Attacks Wound 61 Troops in Iraq

TALAFAR, Iraq - Suicide bombers, one in a car and another on foot, blew themselves up at the gates of two U.S. military bases on Tuesday, wounding 61 American soldiers but failing to inflict deadly casualties on the scale of recent attacks in Iraq etc.. and the story goes on to mention .. On Tuesday, a U.S. Army observation helicopter took fire and made an emergency landing west of Baghdad, and the two crew members walked away with "minimal injuries," the U.S. military said. Residents said the helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

KERMAN, Iran - Entire blocks of buildings lay crushed and survivors lined up blanket-wrapped bodies in the street after a devastating earthquake leveled nearly three-quarters of the Iranian city of Bam on Friday, killing at least 5,000 people and injuring 30,000 others. etc ..  etc.. etc.. The quake struck at 5:28 a.m., while many were asleep. IRNA put the maginitude at 6.3; the U.S. Geological Survey measured it at 6.5. Survivors were panicked throughout the day by aftershocks, including one that registered a magnitude of 5.3 .. etc.. etc..

A powerful earthquake shook Indonesia's tourist islands of Bali and Lombok today, injuring 29 people and damaging more than 250 buildings, officials and witnesses said. Japan bans U.S. poultry imports

TOKYO — Japan has temporarily suspended all imports of American poultry after U.S. agriculture officials confirmed an outbreak of bird flu at a chicken farm in Delaware, the government said today.

Agriculture Minister Yoshiyuki Kamei said the "precautionary measure" was taken to prevent the spread of avian influenza.

Delaware Agriculture Secretary Michael Scuse said Friday that the bird-flu strain — identified as H7 — is different from the one that has swept Asia and isn't a threat to human health.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said yesterday that the bird-flu virus that killed two Vietnamese sisters whose brother had died of the disease earlier did not contain human genes, meaning there is still no sign the virus has mutated into a new, more contagious form.

So far, there have been no known cases of person-to-person transmission in the current outbreak. The women and their brother apparently caught the disease while killing chickens to be served at the man's wedding.

Seattle's mayor jumped into the roiling debate over gay marriage, vowing to recognize the marriages of gay city employees who tie the knot elsewhere and pushing for a measure to extend protections for gay married couples throughout the city.

Mayor Greg Nickels can't issue marriage licenses in the city -- that authority rests with the county -- so he has decided to do what he calls "the next best thing."

Texas, NM hit hard by heavy rains (AP)

I cannot replant as we do not have the funds. Could you please pray for our crops? If we don't get a cash crop this fall, we are done, the weather has broke us. The leap right over spring to summer weather continued as Phoenix set a record temperature on Saturday with a high of 95 degrees. The previous record was 94 degrees from 1997 and 1925. The normal high is 77 degrees.
Saturday was the third day in a row Phoenix touched a record high. Thursday and Friday were record ties with 91 and 92 respectively.
Today is expected to tie or break the record of 93 degrees set on March 21, 2002, according to the National Weather Service.

LAS VEGAS - The drought gripping the West could be the biggest in 500 years, with effects in the Colorado River basin considerably worse than during the Dust Bowl years, scientists at the U. S. Geological Survey said Thursday.  "That we can now say with confidence," said Robert Webb, lead author of the new fact sheet.  "Now I'm completely convinced."  The Colorado River has been in a drought for the entire decade, cutting an important source of water for millions of people across the West, including Southern California. etc.. etc..

12 Marines, 66 Iraqis Killed in Battles

Reports from the city of Ramadi, near Fallujah, said dozens of Iraqis attacked a Marine position near the governor's palace, a senior defense official said from Washington. Good Morning! Jason from Ky was on asking for prayer. "Not been so good for the farmers. 26 kills crops, two nights that low. It is suppose to warm up today two nights in a row with the high's only 40. They say maybe 65 today. From Mn down to Ga and on up to about Va was that cold. Fl was very warm, SC was ok, NC was cold, Ky was cold and Ten, ND, Mn and Wis was cold. Pray for the farmers as it was cold for crops. Plus the lights went up because of the gas prices here. We are selling last years seed and if we run out and sell someone elses, it will be higher now. Gas prices are up to $1.93(reg) and will be over $2 by Friday. Food prices are higher as well. DQ raised their prices ten cents on everything. Lights are very high. We had a 12 hour power outage because they were switching back to coal as coal is cheaper than fuel oil or gas. Please pray for the farmers. If they go under we all go under and this town would become a ghost town. My boss is doing everything he can to help them, he never takes advantage of them. When everything goes up it is hard on the farmers. Don't forget to pray for the people. Summer like heat scorched the Southland on Monday, setting record highs and putting fire and health officials on alert as they prepared for more hundred-plus-degree temperatures today.

"It's too hot," complained Burton Ng, 71, from beneath a black umbrella in Burbank, which hit a record 99 degrees. "And it's only spring."

Monday's heat wave set new highs by as much as 10 degrees throughout California as residents sought relief in shady alcoves, air-conditioned homes and swimming pools.

Record temperatures hit Chatsworth (102), Woodland Hills (104), Simi Valley (100), downtown Los Angeles (99), Los Angeles International Airport (90) and Long Beach (101).

The mercury reached 100 in Van Nuys, 93 in Lancaster, 100 in Saugus, 101 in Thousand Oaks and 106 in Beverly Hills.

Even San Francisco, which usually averages 65 degrees this time of year, reached a record 88.

The blistering heat exacerbated brush fires in Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, where firefighters battled to contain blazes ranging from a quarter-acre to thousands of acres near areas scourged by wildfires last fall.

Soaked suburbanites living along the Des Plaines River, some already suffering after record levels of flooding, are bracing for more misery today as forecasters predict waters may not recede for days.

Based on predictions of overnight rainfall of three quarters to an inch, the National Weather Service said the river will not crest until Wednesday morning at Gurnee, one of the hardest hit suburbs along the Des Plaines, suburbia's north-south water artery. On Monday, Gurnee recorded river levels more than 4 feet above flood stage and may break a record. etc.. etc..

Saudi stability shaken by siege

Saudi commandos Sunday crushed a 25-hour terrorist siege that left 22 dead, but the kingdom braced for further strikes by an al Qaeda cell intent on disrupting the flow of Saudi oil.

(AP) Hampton, Fla. - A fast growing wildfire forced the evacuation of hundreds of northern Florida families Wednesday, and a blaze in a New Mexico forest jumped containment lines. Firefighters tackle blazes in California, other states

(AP) -- Western states such as California and Arizona are battling wildfires as the summer months heat up, and other states are trying to contain blazes.

Dry weather, wind shifts and steep terrain are among the obstacles confronting firefighters from Alaska to Colorado to Utah.

Two wildfires that prompted the evacuation of dozens of homes burned out of control Tuesday morning after charring 8,400 acres of Southern California brush and forest land. etc..

Three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion Monday as they battled a 5,000-acre blaze on the edge of the San Bernardino National forest west of Palm Springs. etc..

In northern Los Angeles County, a 3,400-acre fire in the Lake Hughes area of the Angeles National Forest was 20 percent contained early Tuesday. etc..

The 17,000-acre fire was burning about a mile from the village of Bettles. Fire officials said the blaze, whose cause was unknown, was one of 71 fires already burning statewide. etc..

The fire, which broke out at 5 p.m. Sunday in Dugway about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Salt Lake City, was burning 800 acres Monday. etc..

The biggest fires on the mountain, the lightning-sparked Nuttall and Gibson fires, had joined but were 55 percent contained Sunday, firefighters said. They had burned 29,200 acres on Mount Graham since they began in late June. etc..
