Iran Threatens To Sink The USS Abraham Lincoln As The Middle East Edges Closer To A Cataclysmic Showdown

The United States has gathered more firepower in the Middle East than we have ever seen before. It exceeds anything that we witnessed during Operation Desert Storm, it exceeds anything that we witnessed during the war in Afghanistan, and it exceeds anything that we witnessed during the war in Iraq. That doesn’t necessarily mean that war is imminent. President Trump could ultimately decide not to pull the trigger. But without a doubt, at this moment we are exceedingly close to a cataclysmic showdown in the Middle East.

It is being reported that the USS Abraham Lincoln has officially arrived in the Middle East…

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its three accompanying warships have sailed into the Middle East region, providing President Trump additional military firepower if he decides to strike Iran.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, which is equipped with Mk 57 Mod3 Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missile launchers and can carry squadrons of bombers and early warning planes, and its strike group are in the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) area, which encompasses the Middle East region, the command confirmed Monday.

The addition of the carrier in the region comes as Trump warned Thursday that the U.S. is sending an “armada” toward Iran following nationwide protests in the country, where thousands of demonstrators have been killed by authorities.

Some of us have been carefully tracking the movements of the USS Abraham Lincoln in recent days.

Once the protests in Iran got really crazy, this carrier was redeployed from the Indian Ocean, and it has a maximum capacity of 90 aircraft…

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is hauling five squadrons of strike fighters, with a max capacity of 90 aircraft.

These include F/A-18 Super Hornets, F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters and EA-18G Growler radar jammers — along with Osprey tilt-rotor transports and MH-60S Seahawk helicopters.

Of course the USS Abraham Lincoln is not traveling alone.

It is being accompanied by three guided-missile destroyers that are “fully loaded with Tomahawk cruise missiles”…

The Lincoln is not alone; it hunts with a wolfpack. It is flanked by three guided-missile destroyers: USS Spruance, USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., and USS Michael Murphy. These ships are fully loaded with Tomahawk cruise missiles, ready for immediate launch orders.

This battle group is just the latest addition to the growing amount of firepower that the U.S. has accumulated in the region.

If the U.S. attacks Iran, the Iranians have already warned that the USS Abraham Lincoln will be a primary target.

In fact, the Iranians just released a shocking video that simulates what it would look like if an Iranian ballistic missile were to destroy the carrier…

Iran’s state-run Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization has released a propaganda video that purports to simulate how Iran’s Fattah ballistic missile could split the USS Abraham Lincoln in two in a potential conflict with the US, as the carrier strike group enters Mideast.

They are openly threatening to sink the Abraham Lincoln.

And it appears that they have the ability to do that.

In addition to the various missiles that they possess, the Iranians could also potentially use drones…

Cameron Chell, CEO and co-founder of Draganfly, warned that Iran’s growing reliance on low-cost unmanned systems poses a credible danger to high-value U.S. naval assets, including the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group.

“Iran’s drone capabilities are worth well into the tens of millions of dollars,” Chell told Fox News Digital.

“By pairing low-cost warheads with inexpensive delivery platforms, essentially remotely piloted aircraft, Iran has developed an effective asymmetric threat against highly sophisticated military systems.”

One drone would not be a problem for the Abraham Lincoln.

But if the Iranians sent hundreds of drones at the Abraham Lincoln all at once, the ship’s defenses could be overwhelmed…

Chell said Iran can launch large numbers of relatively unsophisticated drones directly at naval vessels, creating saturation attacks that could overwhelm traditional defenses.

“If hundreds are launched in a short period of time, some are almost certain to get through,” Chell said.

“Modern defense systems were not originally designed to counter that kind of saturation attack. For U.S. surface vessels operating near Iran, warships are prime targets.”

In addition to missiles and drones, the Iranians also possess large numbers of small attack vessels.

According to Defense News, many of them have now been deployed “across the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman”…

Iran has launched its most visible naval mobilization in years across the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, deploying a dense concentration of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vessels as a U.S. carrier strike group advances toward the region. Satellite imagery, maritime tracking data and regional security reporting indicate that Tehran is signaling readiness for confrontation at the world’s most critical energy chokepoint, even as both sides warn of the danger of miscalculation.

Western defense analysts say the IRGC Navy has surged Iranian-flagged ships linked to the Guards into key waterways, including waters adjacent to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and along the approaches to the Strait of Hormuz. The deployments follow a week of Iranian missile drills involving both ballistic and cruise systems, and come amid sharp rhetoric from senior commanders declaring that Iranian forces are “more ready than ever.”

During the 12-Day War, the Iranians did not hit us with everything that they have got.

This time around, it would be completely different.

On Saturday, General Mohammad Pakpour warned that Iran has its “finger on the trigger”…

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard commander on Saturday said the country has its “finger on the trigger” at the U.S. after President Trump said an “armada” will head toward the Middle East.

“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard and dear Iran stand more ready than ever, finger on the trigger, to execute the orders and directives of the Commander-in-Chief,” Gen. Mohammad Pakpour said according to Nournews, a news outlet with ties to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

And one Iranian official just told Reuters that if Iran is attacked “we will respond in the hardest way possible to settle this”…

Iranian officials said over the weekend that they are prepared to retaliate if attacked by the US.

Speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, an official said: ‘This military ‌build-up – we hope it is ‌not intended for real confrontation – but our military is ready for the worst-case scenario. This is why everything is on high alert in Iran.’

He then delivered a warning to Washington, adding: ‘This time we will treat any attack – limited, unlimited, surgical, kinetic, whatever they call it – as an all-out war against us, and we will respond in the hardest way possible to settle this.’

What did he mean by “hardest way possible”?

Was he suggesting that Iran could actually use unconventional weapons?

Let’s hope not.

As I write this, even the slightest miscalculation could set the entire region ablaze.

At this stage, there is even speculation that Iran could launch some sort of a preemptive strike…

Israeli security officials describe Iran as potentially operating under a “use it or lose it” doctrine. Fearing that a sudden U.S. “decapitation strike” could neutralize its missile forces before they are launched, Iranian commanders may be weighing an early salvo against Israel—the United States’ closest regional ally—to ensure retaliation capability.

If the Iranians believe that an attack is inevitable, they may just pull the trigger first.

And Hezbollah is telling us that they will join the fight if war breaks out…

Hezbollah has warned that its enemies will ‘taste the bitterest forms of death’ if Donald Trump strikes its backer, Iran.

Kataib Hezbollah, an Iraqi paramilitary group with links to the better-known Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, issued the fiery warning on Sunday, calling on its fighters to prepare for a possible ‘total war’.

Abu Hussein al‑Hamidawi, the group’s chief, claimed the ‘forces of darkness’ are gathering to destroy Iran, adding: ‘We affirm to the enemies that war against the [Islamic] Republic will not be a walk in the park.

‘But rather, you will taste the bitterest forms of death, and nothing will remain of you in our region.’

Speaking of Hezbollah, the IDF just conducted more than 20 airstrikes on targets in southern Lebanon…

Southern areas of Lebanon were subjected to massive attacks by Israeli Air Force fighter jets, which delivered no less than 23 strikes against ground targets, the news portal Naharnet stated.

Airstrikes were reportedly carried out on the mountainous Jabbur area and the Wadi Barguz gorge, where attempts by militants of the Shiite militia Hezbollah to restore their military infrastructure were recorded.

This should be big news.

Why is the mainstream media in the western world so quiet about this?

We really are on the verge of a cataclysmic showdown in the Middle East.

President Trump warned the Iranians not to kill protesters.

But then the Iranians shut down the Internet for the Iranian population and proceeded to slaughter more than 33,000 protesters…

It comes after it was revealed last night that more than 33,000 protesters had been killed in Iran following the regime’s brutal crackdown on anti-government demonstrations, Time reports, quoting two senior officials working for the country’s Ministry of Health.

The death toll from the anti-government protests, which began on December 28, was previously estimated to be between 16,500 and 18,000.

Alongside the death toll, 97,645 have been wounded, with 30 per cent suffering eye injuries, according to research by Professor Amir-Mobarez Parasta.

We have never seen a slaughter of protesters of this magnitude.

The Iranians clearly crossed the red line that President Trump had established.

Now the U.S. has accumulated an unprecedented amount of firepower in the region, and one expert is warning that “the indicators suggest that planning has moved beyond contingency and into executable readiness”…

A newly circulated strategic assessment by regional military analyst Talal Nahle has intensified speculation that the United States and its allies are nearing a decisive military inflection point with Iran, as unprecedented force concentrations across air and naval domains point to preparations far exceeding a limited or symbolic operation.

The report, updated early Monday following the release of the latest NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) at 02:31 UTC, highlights what Nahle describes as a “deafening silence” — a lack of change in Iranian firing-zone declarations — combined with a vast and measurable coalition order of battle. Together, the indicators suggest that planning has moved beyond contingency and into executable readiness.

“This is no longer the language of speculation,” Nahle wrote. “It is the language of numbers that do not lie.”

According to Nahle, the U.S. could potentially launch more than 1,000 missiles “in a single or closely sequenced salvo”…

At the center of the assessment is the presence of 1,018 Vertical Launch System (VLS) cells deployed aboard U.S. destroyers and other surface combatants operating within strike range of Iran.

According to the analysis, this configuration provides the U.S. Navy with the ability to launch over 1,000 cruise or air-defense missiles — primarily Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles — in a single or closely sequenced salvo.

Military planners note that such volumes are designed for missile saturation, a doctrine that overwhelms even advanced air-defense networks through sheer scale. In this scenario, Iranian radar installations, air bases, command nodes and missile platforms could be targeted simultaneously across the country, compressing the defender’s response window to minutes.

Now that the USS Abraham Lincoln is in the region, the last piece of the puzzle is finally in place.

If President Trump gives the order, missiles will start flying back and forth all over the Middle East.

For the Iranians, the USS Abraham Lincoln would be a really juicy target.

America's earthquake hotspot is more dangerous than feared as scientists make surprising discovery

Scientists studying Northern California have uncovered previously hidden fault lines, raising alarms that seismic risk in the region may be underestimated.

For decades, the Mendocino triple junction was believed to be where three tectonic plates meet: the San Andreas Fault ending in the north, the Cascadia Subduction Zone in the south, and the Mendocino Fault in the east.

Because three major fault systems converge there, the area is one of the most active earthquake zones in the US and could produce a magnitude 8.0 quake.

Now, researchers have discovered that the junction actually contains at least five tectonic plates or fragments deep below the surface, making the region far more complex than previously thought.

That means there may be an unaccounted earthquake hazard in the area, and current models could be underestimating the true risk.

Because the junction lies off the coast and influences both the San Andreas and Cascadia systems, revisions to the model could affect risk calculations for millions of people along the West Coast.

Scientists compared the new findings to an iceberg, where most of the structure remains hidden below the surface.

Geophysicist Amanda Thomas of the University of California, Davis, said: “If we don’t understand the underlying tectonic processes, it’s hard to predict the seismic hazard.”

This discovery shows that the underground fault structure is more complicated than scientists thought.

If the models don’t include these hidden faults, they may underestimate how much stress is building up underground.

That means a larger earthquake could happen unexpectedly, because the hidden faults could suddenly release energy in ways the old models didn’t predict.

The team suspected something more complex was happening at the Mendocino Triple Junction, as a large magnitude 7.2 earthquake in 1992 occurred at a much shallower depth than expected.

First author David Shelly of the US Geological Survey Geologic Hazards Center in Golden, Colorado, said in a statement: 'You can see a bit at the surface, but you have to figure out what the configuration is underneath.'

Using a network of seismometers in the Pacific Northwest, the team tracked tiny 'low-frequency' earthquakes deep underground where tectonic plates grind and slide past each other.

These events are far too weak to be felt on the surface, thousands of times smaller than a detectable quake.

To verify their results, the team compared the seismic activity to tidal forces.

The sun and moon's gravity pulls on the Earth's crust just as it does on the oceans.

When those forces align with the direction a plate is moving, the researchers observed a rise in small quakes, Thomas said, confirming their model.

The new model reveals that the Mendocino triple junction is not just a three-plate intersection, but a far more complicated system of five moving pieces, two of which are hidden deep below the Earth's surface.

At the southern end of the Cascadia subduction zone, researchers say a chunk of the North American plate has snapped off and is being pulled down along with the Gorda plate as it sinks beneath the continent.

Further south, the Pacific plate is dragging a mass of rock called the Pioneer fragment northward under North America. The fault between the Pioneer fragment and the North American plate runs almost horizontally and is completely invisible from above ground.

The Pioneer fragment is a remnant of the ancient Farallon plate, which once ran along California's coastline before mostly disappearing.

The updated model also explains the unusually shallow depth of the 1992 earthquake, because the subducting surface lies much higher than previously thought, Materna said.

'It had been assumed that faults follow the leading edge of the subducting slab, but this example deviates from that,' Materna said. 'The plate boundary seems not to be where we thought it was.'

A deadly winter storm that brought massive snowfall across the U.S. has knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people in the South and is crippling travel in the Northeast.

At least 29 dead across multiple states

At least 29 deaths have been attributed to the storm nationwide, according to the Associated Press.

In Frisco, Texas, near Dallas, a 16-year-old girl died from a sledding accident, according to Frisco police. The victim and another girl were being pulled on a sled by a teenage boy driving a car when the sled struck a curb and then hit a tree, police said.

In the Austin area, a victim was found dead in the parking lot of an abandoned gas station from apparent hypothermia, officials said.

In Arkansas, a 17-year-old boy died after he was pulled by an ATV in the snow and struck a tree, according to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

In Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, three people died while removing snow, the county coroner said. The victims ranged in age from 60 to 84, the coroner said, adding, "I remind the public to use caution when shovel snow … especially individuals with a history of heart disease or other medical concerns."

Eight people died in New York City. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said a retired police officer died on Long Island while shoveling snow, according to New York ABC station WABC.

Another man was found dead with a shovel in his hand in Verona, New Jersey, according to local police.

In Massachusetts, a woman died after a snowplow backed into her in a parking lot, local officials said.

Four deaths were reported in Tennessee, three in Louisiana, two in Mississippi, one in Kansas, one in Ohio and one in South Carolina, according to officials.

Over 5,100 flights canceled Monday after 11,000 flights canceled Sunday

More than 5,100 flights have already been canceled within, into or out of the U.S on Monday, with flights leaving Dallas, Boston and New York City hit the hardest, according to FlightAware.

Since Friday, more than 20,000 flights have been canceled due to the storm. Over 11,000 flights were canceled on Sunday, marking the highest day for cancellations since the pandemic, according to Cirium data.

While the number of cancellations is significantly lower compared to Sunday, it still remains high as airlines are working to recover and resume normal operations.

Flights resumed Monday at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after the airport stopped all flights Sunday due to the storm.

Over 650,000 customers remain without power on Monday, with Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas hit the hardest.

The Nashville Electric Service -- which is the hardest-hit utility in the country according to poweroutage.us -- said it will "double its workforce by midday today, with nearly 300 lineworkers deployed across our service area."

"We understand being without power is difficult, especially when conditions outside are extreme," the company said in a statement. "No one will be forgotten or left behind; however, utility prioritization practices are to restore the greatest number of customers first."

Japan’s Crash Is Our Canary in the Coal Mine

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stock index crashed 870 points, the biggest drop since October.

The mainstream media predictably blamed President Donald Trump’s threat of tariffs over Greenland, but they were wrong.

Thanks to Bitcoin—which trades 24/7—we can actually go to the tape. It turns out Greenland barely made a dent. What caused the bloodbath was Japan.

Specifically, the drop was due to new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Monday press conference. She announced snap elections to bolster a raft of reforms, which would hike government spending and reduce tax revenue. This sent Japanese bonds crashing as bond investors worried Japan can’t handle its massive government debt.

The panic then bled into U.S. financial markets via the yen carry trade, where hedge funds and speculators have borrowed hundreds of trillions of yen at near-zero interest rates to park it in U.S. assets.

The trade worked fine when rates in Japan were kept artificially lower than in the United States and traders could employ plenty of leverage—like gambling with borrowed money.

But now Japanese bond yields are soaring with the 30-year yield setting new records and shorter-term securities like the 10- and two-year at the highest levels since the 1990s. The stratospheric rise in these yields is threatening to strengthen the yen with them—so, that free money spigot is reversing.

Unwinding the yen carry trade sent the hedge funds rushing for the exits, crashing stocks and bonds worldwide as they liquidated holdings to get out of their leveraged positions. Put simply, if they bought assets with borrowed money, the assets were sold to repay the loans before the interest on those loans could skyrocket.

Japan’s latest bond crisis is a near-repeat of the U.K. Gilt Crisis in 2022, when British Prime Minister Liz Truss introduced a package of tax cuts and spending hikes that sent bond yields soaring a point and a half in a single day—third world territory. And that sent the British pound crashing to a 37-year low against the dollar.

The wider issue is what the U.K.—and now Japan—have illustrated: Bond markets cannot digest fiscal deficits that have blown away peacetime records.

The fact that this is happening in two of the most advanced—and heretofore drama-free—economies on Earth is ominous. The bond vigilantes are reminding everyone that they have the final veto on all government finance.

Even worse, the fiscal deficit in Japan is less than half that of the U.S.—3% of the gross domestic product in Japan versus the 6.4% of GDP that Congress is spending us into the hole every year.

While the dollar’s reserve currency status and our lower aggregate national debt buy time, this suggests we’re living on borrowed time. And when the crisis hits here, it could be even harder than Japan.

How the Land of the Rising Sun got here is illustrative since Congress is following the same recipe.

Japan’s original sin dates to when its easy money bubble burst in 1990, and instead of letting weak companies and banks die off, it put them on permanent life support with stimulus and low interest rates.

This created a zombie economy of money-losing companies that hog up one-third of all bank lending and almost 10 million Japanese workers essentially paid to lose money. The result is that while American productivity grew by half since 1990, Japan’s actually dropped.

That in turn translated into real wages that are lower in Japan today than 1990, while also driving Japanese government debt to 230% of GDP—an eye-watering $70 trillion in U.S. GDP terms.

To finance all that debt, the Bank of Japan pushed interest rates down near zero for 30 years, which was necessary because otherwise the interest on that mountain of debt would eat Japan alive.

This created the free money machine of the century for foreigners in the yen carry trade, and it plunged Japan into 30 years of stagnation with no end in sight.

Beyond the economic costs, this has driven Japanese suicide rates to one of the highest rates on Earth, while Japanese fertility has plunged to just 1.2 children per couple. Shockingly, that means eight great-grandparents turn into just 1.7 souls. If this keeps up, Japan’s population will fall by half per generation, leaving a shell of a developed nation.

Japan is the poster child for a creeping worldwide government takeover that’s transforming vibrant economies into permanent crony bailout apparatuses: Where government handouts and tax-funded nongovernmental organizations feast while the dwindling taxpayers—who pay for it—all check out, figuratively and sometimes literally.

The canary in the coal mine is singing. Trump’s doing what he can. Now Congress needs to wake up and turn us back from the fiscal cliff with meaningful spending cuts.

The Sunni threat

Should we start with the good news or the bad? As clouds of war once again gather over Tehran, senior officials in the region assessed this week the Iranian regime's chances of survival as "very high." If there is no genuine military intervention, said the officials, crossing their legs and leaning back, Khamenei could make it to January 20, 2029, the inauguration date of the 48th president of the United States, still ruling the Islamic Republic. It is extremely difficult to topple a regime that is prepared to kill even three hundred thousand of its own people if necessary, they explained.

Even if the regime were to fall, there is no reason to hope for a secular, liberal Iran. In their assessment, the regime that would arise would be a Persian version of Pakistan: a centralized, Muslim, hostile, and far-from-democratic system; the product of a "palace coup" within the Revolutionary Guards rather than a popular uprising from below, whose activists were mown down en masse in the streets. That is why there is not much enthusiasm in the region for an American attack—if, in their view, nothing good is going to come of it anyway.

And now for the good news: even if the regime does not fall, they believe the Iranian threat as we knew it no longer exists. The era in which Iran could calmly and without interference cultivate a formidable proxy army across the Middle East while inching step by step toward a nuclear bomb is over. They are "who they were," and it is preferable to focus on eliminating the Houthis and the remnants of Hezbollah, the last remaining arms. The Middle East has already internalized the "day after" Iran; entirely different things now preoccupy it.

At the top of the list: Turkey. Within ten years, perhaps even less, the Sunni, terror-supporting regime in Ankara will try to take control of the Middle East. It too will have proxies, and it too will try to encircle Israel and make its life miserable. Senior officials in the region are not particularly troubled by Turkey's and Qatar's integration into Gaza's "executive council," which they see as largely symbolic. Qatar as well, in their view, is undergoing a slow process of turning in the right direction after years of a stormy romance with terror and incitement. But what will happen if Jordan—already a state with a Palestinian majority—falls into Turkey's sphere of influence? What if Egypt falls? Or Lebanon? Attention must also be paid to the worrying processes underway in Syria and its effective transformation into Erdogan's murderous client state. It is not yet too late to act, before the Muslim Brotherhood and their patron wash over the region.

Saudi Arabia's reversal

Speaking of changes, here is the updated assessment now being heard in important capitals in the region: normalization with Saudi Arabia is dead, at least for the foreseeable future. The strategic decision to pursue reconciliation with Israel has been replaced by a wild incitement campaign, whose depth and damage are questionable in terms of awareness. When Qatar's "plastic empire" attacks Israel via Al Jazeera, it is very harmful—but when the preacher in Mecca poisons the entire Sunni world against Israelis, that is something else entirely.

Over the past month, Al Arabiya has been worse than Al Jazeera in the texts broadcast against any normalization with Israel. Saudi podcasters who specialize in luxury cars or sports are suddenly cursing Zionism and the Abraham Accords. The broader context is the Saudi-Emirati military confrontation in Yemen—an attack that should greatly worry Israel and the United States, and that delights the Houthis, who watch their enemies fight one another.

Why is this happening? Strangely, Israel has fallen victim to its historic success in severely damaging Iran's nuclear project and its proxy network. In 2015, the Saudi king sent Netanyahu a note congratulating him on his speech to Congress against the nuclear deal. That is where the seeds of cooperation with the moderate Sunni states were sown, culminating in the Abraham Accords. When concern over Iran reached its peak and interest in the Palestinian issue reached a low point, the de facto ruler, Mohammed bin Salman, embarked on a campaign to prepare hearts for peace with Israel. The date was late September 2023.

October 7 changed everything: it both reignited Arab interest in the Palestinian issue and led to an Israel–Iran war on seven fronts. Saudi Arabia received, for free, the goods it wanted in Tehran, and the price it demanded on the Palestinian issue rose sharply. Contrary to the impression created, Netanyahu and Dermer were not particularly eager to pay any price to the Saudis either. "If not, then not—no force," Netanyahu said in one cabinet meeting.

Now, with the Saudis no longer celebrating the Abraham Accords, they are trying to undermine their foundations of support, from Morocco to the Emirates. Someone I spoke with this week used an Arab proverb to explain it: "He who cannot reach the grapes says they are sour." I suggested an Israeli version, straight from air-defense battle lore: "If I don't fly, nobody flies."

Donald Trump has a move or two available in Riyadh. Israel and its friends in the region should ask him to use his influence to halt the toxic campaign against his main international legacy and make clear that an attack on the accords is an attack on him.

The return of the cockpit

The betting site Polymarket is not particularly impressed by most of the polls published in Israel. When the line opened on the identity of the prime minister after the 2026 elections, Bennett led—but within days the trend reversed. For two months now Netanyahu has been confidently in front. This week he widened the gap: a 54% chance of being prime minister. Bennett stands at 19% (a significant drop from last week), followed, in order, by Eisenkot, Lapid, and Golan, all in single digits. Of course, it should be remembered that the Netanyahu option also includes the possibility that he remains in office, but as head of a caretaker government. Still, this is completely different from the impression created by the polls over the past two years.

What is going on here? Is it the bitter experience of Hapoel fans, accustomed to losses and unable to accept a lead in any league? Or is it the dynamic that should worry the opposition: Netanyahu versus the opposition, and the opposition versus itself?

Gadi Eisenkot's move this week—to propose a united list with Bennett and Lapid—was intended to end the destructive descent into internal battles. In the right-wing bloc it is clear who leads and what the structure is. A giant list, with Lieberman on its right and Golan on its left, would end the leadership brawls in one stroke and neutralize the "prisoner's dilemma," in which each player acts rationally for himself and the shared goal is gravely harmed.

Bennett has long warned that an alliance with Lapid would severely damage his chances of drawing votes from the right, but Eisenkot's camp believes that in any case the almost only person capable of doing that is Lieberman. They think a party with two prime ministers and a chief of staff should allay the fears of undecided voters.

One more thing can be learned from the episode: Gadi Eisenkot has not abandoned his intention to lead the bloc. If Bennett refuses the proposal to choose the prime ministerial candidate only close to the elections, will that pave Eisenkot's way to say, "I tried, they didn't want to, I'm running alone"? Or perhaps to run with Yair Lapid, who is willing to discuss vacating the top spot under certain conditions? The chances of the unification Bennett wants so badly, with Eisenkot, declined this week. Bennett wanted straight and right; Eisenkot wants to meet in the center.

Who will block the blockers?

Can more than a hundred percent of blame be measured for a disaster? If not, any effort to explain complexity will look like an attempt to extract the responsible party. You talked about the failures of the army and the Shin Bet before October 7? You are trying to absolve Netanyahu of responsibility, and vice versa. As in Gaza, so on the roads. You talked about ultra-Orthodox roadblockers? You absolved the driver who ran people over. You blamed the driver? You ignored the violence of the blockage.

There is enough blame to go around, and it is worth starting at the beginning. Blocking roads is a thuggish and violent act, not an effective protest without disruption to public order (and if it is, then it's time to block the road leading to the Attorney General's home every morning; we'll see how long it takes for the directive to change). The State Attorney's guidelines from August 2020 state that inciting those present to block roads can be considered an aggravating circumstance justifying prosecution; so can organizing such a demonstration. Gali Baharav-Miara and her predecessor Amit Isman made a conscious decision in 2023 to exempt the organizers of mass road blockages from any responsibility, in order to protect themselves and their counterparts in the legal system. It was a "green light" to normalize violence and a prelude to making Israelis' lives miserable.

To the credit of the Kaplan protesters, both on the enforcing and the non-enforcing side, a similar disgrace also characterized the disabled protests. And to the discredit of the extreme ultra-Orthodox who blocked roads en masse, it should be said that they did so even before the paralysis of Ayalon became fashionable. But once the illegal disregard by law enforcement for its own guidelines was normalized, the train left the station (and was then blocked by protesters).

If there is no price at all for blocking a road, how is this phenomenon supposed to end? What is a driver supposed to do when a protester stops in front of his car? The answer is certainly not to run him over. But the protester and the blocker also bear responsibility and blame for the tragic outcomes. Not all the responsibility and not all the blame, of course, but a decisive contribution: without a blockage, there would have been no running over. It is worth remembering this, not only on Romema Street, but also the next time Kaplan protesters are shocked by a driver who struck them on the road. There is a price for lawlessness. If the justice system does not collect it, it may, tragically, be collected by passersby.

Report: US weighs full Syria withdrawal as Sharaa forces rout Kurds

The Wall Street Journal reports that Washington is considering a full troop withdrawal from Syria after the SDF’s collapse.

Washington is weighing a full withdrawal of American forces from Syria, US officials told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, as Syrian President Ahmed al‑Sharaa moves to seize control of the country’s northeast from the US-backed, Kurdish‑led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Such a move would end more than a decade of US military involvement in Syria, which began in 2014 when then‑President Barack Obama intervened in the civil war. The deliberations come as Sharaa’s government has ordered the SDF to disband following a rapid offensive over the weekend that left the militia on the brink of collapse.

The United States has previously considered a drawdown. In December 2018, President Trump abruptly announced a full pullout of roughly 2,000 troops, prompting the resignation of then-Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. The decision was later softened by senior advisers, leaving a residual force in place.

Today, roughly 1,000 American troops remain in Syria, mostly in the northeast alongside the SDF. A small number are stationed at Al Tanf Garrison in the south. Their primary mission is preventing an Islamic State (ISIS) resurgence, and until last weekend’s offensive, the SDF was responsible for guarding about 9,000 ISIS detainees.

The Pentagon declined to comment, and the White House did not immediately respond.

US officials say that if the SDF disbands entirely, there would be little justification for keeping American troops in Syria. They also cite the difficulty of working with Sharaa’s forces, which they say include jihadist sympathizers and soldiers tied to Al‑Qaeda and ISIS, as well as individuals implicated in alleged war crimes against Kurds and Druze.

Tensions have already escalated. In December, two US soldiers and an American interpreter were killed near Palmyra by a Syrian security officer who was about to be dismissed for extremist views. During the recent offensive, US forces shot down a Syrian government drone near an American facility, and Sharaa’s forces attacked SDF barracks at the same base.

Another factor in the withdrawal debate is the fate of thousands of ISIS detainees. On Wednesday, the US began transferring 7,000 of the roughly 9,000 prisoners to Iraq amid fears they could escape as Syrian forces take over detention sites. Last week, 200 detainees escaped from Shaddadi prison after SDF forces abandoned their posts, though Sharaa’s forces later recaptured them.

Earthquake warnings flash from Wyoming to Utah as 4.7 quake rocks the West

Thousands of Americans received earthquake warnings on Thursday after a 4.7 magnitude struck Utah.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) issued the ShakeAlert after the quick hit just 54 miles outside of Salt Lake City at 7.49am local (9.49am ET).

Residents reported shaking across northern Utah, western Wyoming and southern Idaho.

Several cities, including Logan, Ogden, and Provo, reported weak and light shaking to USGS and there have been no reports of injuries or property damage caused by the quake.

Nearly 1.5million people live in the 125-mile stretch between Logan and Provo, where the earthquake's effects were most felt.

Keith Koper, the University of Utah’s Seismograph Station’s director, told ABC4 Utah: 'It is possible that you could feel more shaking later today.'

USGS added that there was a nearly 50percent chance that another quake stronger than magnitude 3.0 could take place in the region over the next day.

Koper noted that Thursday's event was not considered a 'big earthquake' but added that this highly populated part of Utah sits on top of a major fault line linked to significant seismic activity.

The Wasatch Fault runs directly under or very close to several major Utah cities along the Wasatch Front.

These communities include Brigham City, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo, and Nephi.

According to officials in Utah, the Wasatch Fault has caused 17 major earthquakes stronger than magnitude 5.5 since record-keeping began in the area in 1847.

Studies by USGS have warned that at least 22 large surface-splitting quakes stronger than magnitude 7.0 have taken place along the Wasatch over the last 6,000 years, averaging one every 300 years.

The most recent of these major disasters took place approximately three centuries ago near the Nephi segment of the fault line, meaning a new mega earthquake could conceivably be a possibility, based on historical averages.

A 2016 review of the Wasatch Fault by USGS and other state scientists determined that there was a 43percent chance of an earthquake greater than magnitude 6.7 erupting along the fault over the next 50 years.

The odds were even higher of a quake stronger than magnitude 6.0 impacting Utah, coming in at 57percent.

'A large quake on the Wasatch fault zone near Salt Lake City could have an enormous impact on the region and result in 2,000 to 2,500 fatalities,' the 2016 Working Group on Utah Earthquake Probabilities (WGUEP) wrote in their assessment.

The report also estimated that 7,400 to 9,300 life-threatening injuries would occur, 84,000 families could displaced from their homes, and there would likely be disruptions to water, electricity, gas, and sewer lines when the earth split.

Overall, the total damage cost in 2016 was calculated at $33billion.

Since Thursday's magnitude 4.7 quake, at least six minor aftershocks have been recorded in the area.

The earthquake did not take place directly along this fault line, as its epicenter was approximately 50miles east of the Wasatch.

However, it was still located within the Intermountain Seismic Belt (ISB), a massive zone of earthquake activity stretching from Montana to Arizona.

Genetics Helping Restore Priestly Lineage Of Levites For Third Temple Service

The wind cuts down from the Mount of Olives as three Jewish men named Cohen hunch their shoulders against the cold and start up the wooden ramp to the Temple Mount, breath clouding in the Jerusalem air.

In a scene that could stand in for countless real family journeys, their grandparents' stories trace lines through Poland, Tunisia and Iran, but here the paths merge: walking the worn stone their Israelite forefathers once crossed in white linen, lips shaping the same psalms those priests sang when the Temple still stood and the smoke of offerings climbed into the winter sky.

If this trio had wanted more than a symbolic ascent--if they had wanted to learn how to bless, to sing and to serve as their ancestors once did--they could now find a place to do it.

An emerging effort to revive the Aaronite priests and Levitical assistants of ancient Israel has grown into a nearly 100-strong professional community of Kohanim and Levites in just a month, led by a young Israeli doctor and Temple Mount activist.

Nathan Huberman, 32, a Canadian-born physician, Israel Defense Forces veteran and longtime Temple Mount guide who lives outside Jerusalem, recently talked to JNS about his work turning ancient hereditary roles into a concrete program of training, identity and public engagement.

"These communities are professional communities, founded on four principles," Huberman said. "Identity, an identity that comes with responsibility, knowing the actions you are meant to perform, and setting professional standards for those actions."

Huberman is building two separate but related professional communities rooted in priestly and Levitical identity, each with its own focus and infrastructure.​

The Kohen community operates under Mamlechet Kohanim, which runs a basic training course using life-sized replicas of Temple vessels--including an altar and menorah--and brings in specialists to teach practical workshops. The aim is to grow both the number of participants and their level of professional preparedness for traditional priestly functions The Levite community is organized through the Beyadenu organization and is centered on the Temple Mount, where members ascend to areas permitted under Jewish law and sing, echoing the role of Levites in the ancient Temple ensemble. Huberman is working to formalize this track as well, consulting musicologists and performers from Levitical families to design a dedicated course in Levite liturgical song that is still in development​

Because both groups are identity-based ethnic communities, Huberman says there is significant work to be done in structuring them along traditional lines. He notes that biblical, rabbinic and archaeological sources describe how the Temple workforce was divided, and that some families today claim descent from the Second Temple-era mishmarot, or service divisions.

In theory, he adds, modern genetic research could be used to help sort contemporary priests and Levites into their ancestral family lines, further refining how the two communities are organized.​

"I'm here just connecting dots," said Huberman. "There are people out there doing great work, and these communities invite people to take part in those dots that are already there and connect to them."

The Levi project rests on what Huberman calls a quiet revolution in Jewish access and religious expression on the Temple Mount over the past decade. Where once Jews risked being expelled or even arrested for closing their eyes too long or appearing to pray, he says it is now possible to sing and even dance openly under the eyes of Israeli police without interference.​

As a board member of Beyadenu, Huberman works to ease access and improve the experience for non-Muslims, arguing that a broader cross-section of Israeli society now ascends the Mount, including religious Zionists, haredim and others.

He points to a growing, if often discreet, roster of rabbis who halachically permit ascent under strict guidelines, citing figures such as the late chief rabbis Mordechai Eliyahu and Shlomo Goren and promising to publish a detailed list of supportive authorities.

"Most of the people going up are not very homogenous," he said. "It's shared among many different demographics, which is very interesting."

The communities' development coincides with cutting-edge research into the Y chromosome of Kohens that, in Huberman's view, could transform how priestly families organize themselves for renewed Temple service. A recent high-resolution sequencing study, currently available as a preprint, found that roughly 80 percent of tested Kohens cluster into nine major paternal lineages, with about 20% remaining unassigned--an echo, he notes, of Second Temple-era records describing a group called Hakot that was sidelined from service due to unclear lineage.

While stressing that halachic Kohen status cannot rest on DNA alone, Huberman sees enormous potential in using genetics to reconstruct detailed family trees and revive the 24 "mishmarot," or family shifts, into which King David and the prophet Samuel divided the priestly workforce. He hopes to work with researchers to map well-documented Kohen dynasties--from families in Israel and Tunisia to Middle Eastern clans that preserve scrolls tracing their ancestry back to biblical figures such as Ezra and Eli the High Priest--onto these genetic lines for practical division of future Temple labor.

"You can use the genetic code to recreate family trees," Huberman emphasized. "You can prove that a Kohen from Algeria and a Kohen from Eastern Europe actually descend from the same person, and that has huge implications for how the Temple service could be organized."

Huberman situates his initiative within a larger theological and national conversation in Israel about what Jewish sovereignty is ultimately for beyond physical protection from antisemitism. Drawing inspiration from Bar-Ilan University's professor Hillel Weiss, whose writings on practical steps toward Temple restoration deeply influenced him, he argues that the Temple and its priestly institutions are meant to expand Judaism's contribution to the world, socially and spiritually.​

To that end, the communities collaborate with groups such as the Temple Institute, whose altars and ritual equipment could, in Huberman's telling, be deployed rapidly if circumstances allowed, making a pool of trained Kohens and Levites a strategic religious asset.

He emphasizes readiness and professionalism over messianic rhetoric, inviting skeptics and supporters alike to visit courses in person and watch Levites sing on the Temple Mount, in the hope that transparency will build trust and normalize what he sees as a grassroots return to Temple-centered Jewish identity.

"The Israeli population in general, Jewish people in general, are grappling with the question," said Huberman. "We get it, we have a country that's supposed to protect us from antisemitism, but beyond just protection and creating a country, what are we supposed to do with this country?"

Although still in their earliest stages, the communities already mimic aspects of Chabad-style outreach, with Huberman fielding daily calls from Kohens in Israel and abroad who want to join, including those who are not observant. He portrays the project as a way to "fix historical fractures," including his own complicated Levitical family story in the shadow of the Holocaust, by rebuilding broken chains of memory and practice.​

Next steps include expanding course offerings, formalizing workshops with academic and ritual partners, and building an international network of identity-based priestly and Levitical communities.

Huberman encourages any self-identified Kohen or Levi interested in reconnecting with this heritage to reach out directly through his existing contact details, promising that the door is open to all who wish to turn an inherited status into lived responsibility.

"I want it to be the most inviting that it can be to every Kohen," Huberman said. "It's sort of like an outreach movement, like a Chabad for priestly families, bringing this part of Judaism back to Jews all over."

The National Faith Advisory Board highlighted a response by Pastor Paul Chappell, as well as Paula Michelle White, who serves as senior adviser to the White House Faith Office.

"We condemn the actions of Don Lemon and the group of activists who stormed Cities Church today in St. Paul, Minnesota, in clear violation of the FACE Act. Christians everywhere should demand that the Department of Justice arrest those who participated. We must protect religious liberty in this country," White wrote.

Chappell called on the Department of Justice to launch an investigation into the incident and "apprehend those who broke the law."

"We must protect religious liberty in this country," Chappell told his congregation at Lancaster Baptist Church in California.

Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, condemned the incident as "unspeakably evil." He also urged law enforcement to take swift action.

President Donald Trump's administration has already announced investigations into the incident, which saw dozens of protesters disrupting the service and harassing congregants on Sunday.

"What a despicable act meant to terrorize and stoke fear in Christians. This is what the Left is. They hate order and want to destroy the nation," wrote Pastor Steve Gentry of Village Church in Virginia.

"If state leaders refuse to act responsibly to prevent lawlessness, this Department of Justice will remain mobilized to prosecute federal crimes and ensure that the rule of law prevails," she added.

Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights, said she and her team are "hard at work" investigating the incident.

"We will not rest until we are able to deliver justice," Dhillon said in a statement.

Pileup involving up to 100 cars reported on Michigan highway: ‘Avoid driving today'

A pileup involving as many as 100 cars shut down a western Michigan highway on Monday and left many drivers stranded in dangerous weather conditions.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's office reported a multi-vehicle crash just before noon on Interstate 196 near 64th Avenue in Zeeland Township, located about 25 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

The crash shut down I-196 in both directions between Hudsonville and Zeeland, leaving many drivers stranded. Buses from Hudsonville Public Schools were being used to transport stranded drivers from the scene to Hudsonville High School, the sheriff's office said.

"Motorists currently stranded on scene should remain inside their vehicles until they are able to board a bus for transportation to Hudsonville High School," the department wrote. "We are asking the public to avoid driving today, especially in this area, due to hazardous conditions."

NBC affiliate station WOOD-TV reported the crash involved as many as 100 vehicles, and "includes several jack-knifed semi-trucks.”

Images purportedly of the scene showed several semis in ditches and crashed vehicles on snowy roadways.

The National Weather Service had warned Monday that "travel is not recommended near and west of US 131 this morning into the afternoon."

"This especially includes I-196," the agency wrote on X. "Whiteouts, slide offs and multi car accidents have been observed on major roads via MDOT webcams as lake effect snow bands and blowing snow are occurring."

Snowfall rates of up to a half-inch per hour were reported.

According to WOOD-TV, the interstate was closed for roughly eight hours but had reopened as of 6 p.m. About nine to 12 people were injured in the pileup and taken to area hospitals, authorities said.

Earlier on Monday, the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had received an invitation to join the Board of Peace, and that Moscow was reviewing the proposal, expressing hope for future contacts with Washington regarding it.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has accepted US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join his new “Board of Peace" as a founding member, the Moroccan foreign ministry announced Monday.

“Welcoming President Donald Trump’s commitment and vision to promoting peace," the monarch “has graciously accepted this invitation," the ministry said in a statement published by the MAP news agency, adding that Morocco would “ratify the charter establishing this board."

The ministry hailed the US-led initiative as aiming to “contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East and adopt a new approach to resolving conflicts around the world."

The charter of the “Board of Peace", seen by AFP, states that member countries - represented by their head of state or government - may join for three years, or longer if they contribute more than $1 billion within the first year.

The Board, which is part of Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, will serve as an international transitional oversight body that supervises and provides oversight for Gaza's transitional administration during a post-ceasefire reconstruction period.

As part of the plan, day-to-day administration is handled by a technocratic Palestinian Arab committee overseen by an intermediate executive committee. The “Board of Peace" is chaired by Trump himself and includes around 10-15 leaders from Arab, Western, and other countries.

As the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln makes its way toward the Persian Gulf, the decisive moment between the US and Iran draws closer. At this stage, and despite the belligerent rhetoric on both sides, it is clear that a diplomatic solution is still very much an option. The same actors in Iran, in the US administration and across the region who blocked a strike last Wednesday are apparently using the waiting period to explore alternatives that could enable a political process between Washington and Tehran and avert escalation.

The carrier's arrival gives the United States considerable operational flexibility against Iran, ranging from dramatic steps such as targeting Iranian oil tankers that guarantee crude supplies to China, to direct strikes on targets inside Iran itself. Yet even with these capabilities in place, the core dilemma facing the administration remains unresolved: whether to settle for a show of force and diplomatic pressure aimed at producing a nuclear agreement on Washington's terms, or to pursue kinetic action designed to bring about regime change.

Moreover, the massive concentration of force in the Gulf does not answer the deeper strategic question: how to achieve a swift and meaningful outcome, potentially including regime change, without being dragged into a prolonged and costly campaign. At the same time, it is unclear how Washington could ensure that a post-regime Iran would not be taken over by forces even more extreme than the current leadership.

Tehran under pressure

Either way, the arrival of the aircraft carrier in the Gulf dramatically increases the level of pressure on Tehran, particularly amid possible threats to the life of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This also explains the threats voiced yesterday by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and why Iranian forces are apparently on high alert.

Much like the administration in Washington, the Iranian regime now faces a dramatic point of decision: whether to comply with US demands, a move that would require relinquishing key pillars of the regime's security doctrine, foremost among them uranium enrichment, or to stand firm and risk a military confrontation, a scenario Iran is least eager to see unfold.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Khamenei himself. The question is whether a leader who views the US as the "Great Satan" and the bitter enemy of the Islamic Revolution will be willing, despite his public declarations, to drink not just a cup but a "pitcher of poison" in order to save the regime.

If not, is there any actor within Iran with enough power to push him in that direction? This comes as it is far from clear how fully aware he is of the gravity of the situation and of the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran, even after suppressing protests, remains in an extremely fragile state. If Tehran fails to change course, the next wave of protests may only be a matter of time, given the country's severe economic distress.

Between Opportunity and Risk

From an Israeli perspective, this is an issue of opportunity against risk. The unprecedented US presence in the Gulf and the commitment demonstrated by the president on Iran brings Israel closer to achieving the strategic objective of a dramatic change in Iran's regime or, at the very least, a fundamental shift in its policy.

At the same time, there is the danger that Washington and Tehran could reach a nuclear deal that would not serve Israel's interests. As ever, opportunity comes hand in hand with risk. Iran may not choose to attack Israel in every scenario, but the the likelihood of Israeli involvement is likely to rise.

The USS Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt sailed into the Red Sea early today, making it the only US Aircraft Carrier - and strike group - in the Middle East.

Yesterday, the USS George HW Bush left Norfolk, VA heading out into the Atlantic. There is no word on where it is deploying, but common sense would seem to indicate Europe/The Mediterranean Sea.

US President Donald Trump was advised that a large-scale military strike against Iran would be unlikely to make the Islamic Republic's regime fall, and may have sparked a wider conflict, US officials told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

Trump, for now, would monitor how Tehran handles ongoing protest activity before deciding on the scope of any potential military action, the report noted.

The US military would need more firepower in the region in order to launch a large-scale military action, protect US forces mobilized in the region, and to protect regional allies, including Israel, if Iran were to retaliate against a strike, the advisers told Trump, according to the officials.

However, smaller military actions could boost morale among protesters nationwide, even if it ultimately did not change the regime's clampdown on activists, the officials told the outlet.

Trump, while not having made a final decision, has requested that US military assets be mobilized in preparation for a possible large-scale attack order, the officials said.

Trump and his team "have communicated to the Iranian regime that if the killing continues, there will be grave consequences,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday.

Leavitt: Only Trump knows what he will do in Iran

Only Trump knows what he is going to do, and a "very, very small team of advisors are read into his thinking," she added.

Trump is likely to order the USS Abraham Lincoln to reposition from the South China Sea to the Middle East, two US officials and one other person familiar with the move told WSJ. This journey would last approximately a week, they noted.

Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters that he is supportive of a larger-scale strike, WSJ reported, adding that he hopes the Iranian regime's "days are numbered."

Israeli and Arab officials have privately cautioned the Trump administration in recent days that Iran’s regime may not yet be weakened enough for US military strikes to deliver a decisive blow, NBC News reported Tuesday.

The report cited a US official, a former US official briefed on the talks, a source familiar with Israeli leadership thinking, and two Arab officials.

These officials have advised President Donald Trump - who is weighing military action in response to Tehran’s deadly crackdown on protesters - to hold off on large‑scale strikes for now. Some prefer waiting until the regime is further strained, noting that Iran’s internal stability is shifting rapidly and could change dramatically in either direction.

The discussions, involving senior American political and military leaders, highlight the complex considerations Trump faces as he evaluates possible US responses. The President, who was expected to meet on Tuesday with his national security team, has warned that Iran will face US military action if the regime is killing protesters.

One Arab official said there is a “lack of enthusiasm from the neighborhood" for US strikes at this moment. Another warned that “any attack or escalation by Israel or the US will unite Iranians," noting the rally‑around‑the‑flag effect after the American and Israeli attack in June.

Israeli officials have told the administration that while they fully support regime change in Iran, they fear outside military intervention now may not finish the job protesters have begun. They have suggested alternative US actions to further weaken the regime and bolster demonstrators before considering larger strikes.

Possible steps include improving communications access for Iranians to bypass the regime’s internet blackout, increasing economic sanctions, launching a cyberattack, or carrying out highly targeted military action against specific Iranian leaders, the sources said.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington declined to comment.

A White House official said in a statement that “All options are at President Trump’s disposal to address the situation in Iran. The president listens to a host of opinions on any given issue, but ultimately makes the decision he feels is best."

The official added that Trump “means what he says," citing military action he ordered against Iran in June and the recent operation to capture Venezuela’s leader.

On Monday night, two Defense Department officials who spoke to CBS News stated that Trump has been briefed on a broad set of military and covert capabilities that could be used against Iran, extending far beyond conventional airstrikes.

Several sources familiar with the matter said the President’s national security team will meet at the White House today to review updated Iran options. It remains unclear whether the President will attend the meeting.

A separate report in the New York Times, citing a senior US source, said that the Pentagon presented Trump with a wide range of options for a strike in Iran, including the possibility of attacking parts of its nuclear program.

The source qualified the statement by noting that the more likely options at this stage are pinpointed, such as a cyberattack or a strike against Iran's internal security apparatus.

Trump on Tuesday warned in an interview with CBS News that the United States is prepared to “take very strong action" if Iran begins hanging anti-government protesters.

The President noted he is aware a “pretty substantial number" of demonstrators have already been killed during more than two weeks of unrest. According to CBS News sources, at least 12,000 - and possibly as many as 20,000 - are feared dead.

Speaking to reporters later, following his visit to Detroit, Trump said, "I'm going back to the White House now, we're going to look at the whole situation that's going on in Iran... We'll get some accurate numbers as to what's happening with regard to the killing."

Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi assured protesters in the ongoing demonstrations against the government that American help was coming while also urging Iran’s army to abandon the regime and join the opposition in a statement released on Wednesday morning.

“My compatriots,” Pahlavi began in his statement, posted to X/Twitter. “By now, you have probably heard the message from the President of the United States. Help is on the way. Continue the fight, as you have done so far.”

He went on to state that there was “a sea of blood” between the Iranian people and the regime, which he asserted would be “prosecuted” for their actions. He then called for Iran’s army to cease defending the country’s leadership.

“But I also have a special message for members of the Army,” he concluded. “You are the national military of Iran, not the military of the Islamic Republic. You have a duty to protect the lives of your compatriots. You do not have much time. Join them as soon as possible.”

The crown prince’s message comes as official confirmations of the death toll from the protests cross 2,000.

On Tuesday, an Iranian official told The New York Times that around 3,000 people had died. The following morning, US-based Iranian rights group HRANA confirmed that at least 2,403 protesters had been killed.

Pahlavi’s assurance that US help was “on the way” follows US President Donald Trump's statement on Tuesday on his Truth Social platform.

The president also noted that he had canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the regime ceased its violent crackdown on protesters.

That day, the US told its citizens to immediately leave Iran via a notice released by its virtual embassy in Tehran.

“US citizens should leave Iran now. Consider departing Iran by land to Turkiye or Armenia, if safe to do so," the notice said.

French foreign minister: Iran crackdown could be most violent in its contemporary history

Also speaking on Iran's crackdown on demonstrations across the country, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Wednesday that they were the most violent in the country's contemporary history.

"What we suspect is that this is the most violent repression in Iran's contemporary history and that it must absolutely stop," Barrot said.

School District Accused of Forcing Kids to Hide Bibles

An organization that provides Bible programming to public school children is suing a Washington state school district, alleging officials are improperly targeting its Christian program.

Joel Penton, CEO of LifeWise Academy, told CBN News his organization allows parents to opt-in for their kids to go off-site during lunch, recess, and other non-essential periods from public schools during the day.

Children are then given Bible lessons before returning to their respective schools. LifeWise, which launched in 2019, operates in hundreds of schools and is independently funded. It’s a Released Time religious instruction program, made legal in 1952, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Zorach v. Clauson case that public school students can be released during school hours to attend religious classes.

“We’ve been growing rapidly in the last few years, but we started up a program in Everett, Washington, and it was going so well last year,” Penton said. “We had dozens of families engaged and some individuals went to the school board … one gentleman on the school board, in particular, was swayed by these things, and they put in some really discriminatory rules.”

He continued, “They updated their policies and changed the rules on us so that, unlike other student groups … we cannot show up now at any of the school-related functions like the fair where kids sign up for programs like ours and learn about new things.”

Penton said LifeWise has been “singled out.” Beyond purportedly precluding the organization from participating in these official club events, he said LifeWise is now required to obtain weekly parental permission slips from families who wish to opt in.

Normally, Penton said, this would be a one-time permission granted at the start of the school year.

“They have now changed the rules that children need to bring in a permission slip every single week,” he explained. “And not only that, they’ve said that the parents need to carry in the permission slip each and every week … it’s clearly an obstacle they’re putting up to try to push us out because that’s unreasonable for parents to do that.”

Penton alleged no other clubs are being asked to do the same. This school year, he said, LifeWise will be in 1,000 schools and no other school across the U.S. requires such permission.

The third issue Penton mentioned — one he called “almost comically discriminatory” — is a policy reportedly requiring students who leave LifeWise during the day and come back to school to place any materials, including Bibles, in a “sealed envelope.”

“That sounds like it can’t even be real, but a sealed envelope as though the material is dangerous — that it will infect other children,” Penton said.

He believes the school board changed its policies to “single … out” LifeWise.

“It seems to be a transparent attempt to get us to effectively shut down the program,” Penton said. “And so we really tried to handle this quietly. … We went to the school and tried to very quietly say, ‘You know, this is discrimination; you can’t do this. There’s a constitution in this country.’ And they were not receptive to that.”

Penton went to First Liberty Institute, a conservative legal firm, to get assistance. A letter pushing back on the policies reportedly didn’t yield the response First Liberty wanted.

So, LifeWise has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the district’s policies. Penton said parents feel targeted by the district’s actions, and he’s working to ensure they are overturned.

“As you can imagine, parents are upset by this, and especially when … we’ve been trying to do this in a way that isn’t offensive,” he said. “Kids whose parents opt them into the program want to quietly have a Bible study.”

Ultimately, Penton said LifeWise wants families to have full access to the program in a “way that is not discriminatory toward them.” He’s hoping to see normal policies reinstated.

“We’re not looking for fights,” Penton said. “We’re looking to teach the Bible to kids.”

CBN News reached out to the Everett Public Schools board for comment, but, as of the time of publication, have not yet received a response. Everett Public Schools spokesperson Harmony Weinberg reportedly told the Herald that no additional comment could be given on the litigation.

Massacre of Christians ongoing in Nigeria: 'Fulani herdsmen killing innocents almost daily'

ABUJA, Nigeria — Fulani herdsmen in Benue state, Nigeria, killed four Christians on Monday and nine others on Jan. 5-6, sources said.

In Otobi Akpa village, Otukpo County, Fulani herdsmen arrived at midnight on Monday and shot four Christians who had been asleep in their homes, said resident Franca Akipu, who said dozens of others remain missing.

“The attack was carried out by Fulani herdsmen,” she told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News. “They shot at people who were sleeping. The gunshots were so loud that my mom was in panic throughout the night. Please keep my community in your prayers.”

Akipu identified the slain Christians as Ochi Igbade, Eje Uzu, Alinko and Achibi.

Previously, Fulanis had attacked the village on April 15, killing 13 Christians and burning down 50 houses, she said. Community leader Adikwu Ogbe said they were attacked at about 6 p.m. on that day.

“The armed herdsmen invaded our community, shooting sporadically at anyone they sighted,” Ogbe told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News. “And when they retreated, 13 of our Christian members had been killed, while 50 houses were destroyed.”

In two other counties in Benue state, herdsmen killed five Christians on Jan. 6 and four others on Jan. 5, residents said.

In Kwande County, Fulani herdsmen on Jan. 6 killed five Christians as they were working on their farms in Udeku Maav-Ya village at about 4 p.m.

“This incident is not the first in this area, as these Fulani herdsmen have been persistent in attacking our communities,” said Tersua Yarkwan, chairman of the Kwande Local Government Council.

Council member Akerigba Lawrence also noted that residents of the area’s predominantly Christian villages “have constantly faced sustained attacks and destruction of their homes and farms.”

In Ikyaghev village, Guma County, herdsmen on Jan. 5 killed four Christians, said Maurice Orwough, Guma Council chairman.

“The farmers were working on their farms when the herdsmen attacked them around 10 a.m.,” Orwough told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News. “The four Christians are members of the same family.”

James Melvin Ejeh, Agatu Council chairman, said there have been “deliberate and systematic attacks against Christians in some of our communities by herdsmen which have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.”

In Ukum County, armed herdsmen on Jan. 8 attacked farmers in predominantly Christian Adogo village, destroying crops, said resident Thomas Ikyase.

Community leader Aule Gba added, “Farmers in my community were attacked by Fulani terrorists. They forced our people to flee from their homes.”

Herdsmen attacks also took place in December. In Okpokwu County, Fulani herdsmen on Dec. 30 attacked a funeral in Owewe village, said resident Isaac Audu. Sunday Oche, chairman of the Ado Local Government Council, noted that herdsmen also attacked the predominantly Christian villages of Ijigban, Ulayi and Utonkon on Dec. 9.

“The herdsmen’s pattern of violence includes attacking mourners, ambushing farmers, and inflicting machete cut wounds on Christian victims,” Oche said.

In an attack on predominantly Christian Mbamondo Ukembergya village in Logo County on Dec. 7, herdsmen killed four Christians, said resident Simon Chia.

“Fulani herdsmen are killing innocent Christians almost daily,” Chia said. “This is the situation we are facing in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state.”

Numbering in the millions across Nigeria and the Sahel, predominantly Muslim Fulani comprise hundreds of clans of many different lineages who do not hold extremist views, but some Fulani do adhere to radical Islamist ideology, the United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom or Belief (APPG) noted in a 2020 report.

“They adopt a comparable strategy to Boko Haram and ISWAP and demonstrate a clear intent to target Christians and potent symbols of Christian identity,” the APPG report states.

Christian leaders in Nigeria have said they believe herdsmen attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt are inspired by their desire to forcefully take over Christians’ lands and impose Islam, as desertification has made it difficult for them to sustain their herds.

Renowned Attorney Larry Klayman, founder of Judicial Watch and later Freedom Watch USA, has long predicted (along with other top intel experts) increasing violence from the Left in a Marxist style Bolshevik Revolution. As money is cut off by the Trump Administration and legal pressure mounts for prosecuting Democrats for everything from fraud to sedition, you can expect the Left to dramatically increase the violence to try to destabilize America. That is their modus operandi. That is the Bolshevik way of doing things. That’s Karl Marx, and the way the Soviet Union was brought down by the communists. These people are communists. Other big legal news is a grand jury empaneled in Florida, which is going to look into partisan investigations on President Trump, including an FBI raid of his home at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

Klayman says, “We do have a grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida, which is the same district where I practice, and it is also the same district where Judge Aileen Cannon is. She is probably the one who empaneled this grand jury. She found President Trump did not commit any violations with regard to the documents found at Mar-a-Lago. There is a reason why it was filed in Fort Pierce.”

Klayman says some Republicans in Congress are not totally committed to stopping the fraud and crime of the Left. Klayman points out, “Congresswoman Nancy Mace went to the oversight committee and asked for a subpoena to be issued for Ilhan Omar with regard to marrying her brother, with regard to tax fraud and all kinds of illegal acts. Congressmen James Comer and Jim Jordan denied the request of Mace. That is unbelievable!”

Earthquake swarm sends shockwaves rippling over 100 miles across California

A swarm of moderate earthquakes has struck California, sending shockwaves in all directions for over 100 miles.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) detected the first and largest of the quakes at 4.10pm ET Tuesday afternoon between the cities of Willits and Ukiah, measuring 4.4 in magnitude.

The epicenter was approximately 120miles north of San Francisco, the region's largest major city.

Seismic maps of the incident revealed that the 4.4 tremor rippled all the way to the San Francisco Bay Area, sending out light shaking up and down the coast.

The quake was quickly following by three minor tremors, measuring at magnitude 1.7 at 4.16pm, magnitude 1.5 at 4.21pm, and magnitude 1.4 at 5.14pm.

Nearly two hours after the first earthquake, USGS reported that a magnitude 3.7 seismic event was detected at 5.51pm.

The sizable quakes were centered in a seismically active part of the state roughly 10miles from Northern California's Maacama Fault.

The Maacama is an active fault line in the region that can cause strong shaking and damage in areas like Mendocino and Sonoma counties, where it runs through rural communities and wine country.

Making the fault even more of a concern to locals is the fact that it's part of the larger San Andreas Fault system, the infamous 800-mile-long fault running through much of California.

The 4.4 quake struck less than five miles beneath the surface, which is shallow enough to cause a significant amount of shaking at ground level.

However, early reports from the region noted that residents only felt moderate shaking and there have been no reports of injuries at this time.

USGS scientists have documented that the Maacama Fault has produced large earthquakes in the past and could potentially generate one in the future which could exceed magnitude 7.0 in strength.

Tuesday's quakes have renewed fears that a major earthquake is not only possible in Northern California and the Bay Area, but is nearly guaranteed to erupt within the next 20 years.

According to a 2015 report by USGS scientists, there is a 95 percent probability that at least one major quake, stronger than magnitude 6.7, will strike somewhere in the region by 2043.

USGS’s earthquake forecast predicted that this impending earthquake had a 72 percent chance of striking right in the San Francisco Bay Area, home to approximately eight million people.

Overall, the grim report estimated that there was more than a 99 percent certainty that a major quake over magnitude 6.7 would erupt somewhere in the state, including Southern California, closer to Los Angeles and San Diego.

Americans across three US states told to stay indoors as air fills with toxins linked to heart attacks

Thousands of Americans are breathing unhealthy air across parts of Georgia, South Carolina and Oregon, as officials warn residents to stay indoors whenever possible.

Air quality maps on Tuesday showed sharply elevated levels of PM2.5, microscopic particles consisting of toxic organic compounds or heavy metals emitted from vehicles, industry and wood burning, creating hazardous conditions.

In Augusta, Georgia, and neighboring areas of South Carolina, including North Augusta, Air Quality Index (AQI) readings reached 166, classified as unhealthy for all residents.

Southern Georgia's Valdosta is also grappling with persistently poor air, with forecasts suggesting more days exceeding AQI 100 due to ongoing environmental stressors.

Central Oregon is under similar alerts, as stagnant air in Bend and surrounding Deschutes County is trapping pollutants, pushing levels into the 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' range and prompting health advisories.

Air quality levels are measured on a scale from 0 to 500: good (0–50) carries little risk, moderate (51–100) may affect sensitive individuals, unhealthy for sensitive groups (101–150) poses increased risk and unhealthy (151–200) impacts everyone, limiting outdoor activity.

Health experts caution that prolonged exposure can trigger respiratory problems, aggravate asthma, strain the heart and contribute to long-term lung damage.

Authorities in all affected states are urging residents to minimize outdoor activity and monitor local air quality forecasts.

The poor air quality in the red zones on the maps stems from a combination of local emissions sources and weather conditions that trap pollutants.

In Augusta, Georgia, and neighboring South Carolina, unhealthy air is being driven primarily by PM2.5 from vehicle traffic, industrial emissions and occasional controlled burns.

Winter weather, including temperature inversions and high-pressure systems, has trapped pollutants close to the ground, keeping haze and particulates in the breathing zone.

Seasonal factors, such as elevated pollen levels, can also affect the AQI, though PM2.5 remains the main concern.

Urban areas like Augusta regularly see spikes in moderate-to-unhealthy air quality, reflecting Georgia’s broader national struggles with pollution.

Valdosta faces similar challenges, as traffic, industrial activity and emissions of volatile organic compounds combine with the Coastal Plain’s geography to slow natural dispersion.

In central Oregon, Bend and southern Deschutes County are under an extended Air Stagnation Advisory through the week.

High-pressure systems and light winds are trapping pollutants, including smoke from residential wood-burning, vehicle exhaust, and other sources, near the ground, creating unhealthy conditions for sensitive residents.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory until 7am PT Friday.

Officials warned that stagnant air keeps harmful particles where people breathe, increasing risks for children, older adults and those with heart or lung conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has also issued a freezing fog advisory in several Oregon regions, which is prompted when fog develops and surface temperatures are at or below freezing.

Benton, Linn, and Lane counties, including Eugene, Corvallis, Albany, and Springfield, are under the alert until 11am PT Tuesday.

Drivers are warned of visibility as low as a quarter mile and slick surfaces from rime ice, while pedestrians and cyclists are urged to wear reflective clothing.

At the same time, an Air Stagnation Advisory remains in effect across much of the Willamette Valley, the Tualatin Valley, Portland Metro and surrounding lowlands through Friday morning.

Stagnant air combined with light winds is trapping pollutants, leading to deteriorating air quality that may affect people with respiratory problems.

Residents are strongly advised to limit outdoor burning and residential wood heating.

Similar conditions are affecting central, eastern, and northern Oregon, including the Columbia River Gorge, Deschutes County, Klamath and Lake counties, Jackson, Josephine, and Douglas counties and extending into parts of southeast Washington.

Cities under alert include Bend, Medford, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, The Dalles and Yakima. Poor air quality is expected to persist through Friday in these regions, with frozen fog further reducing visibility in some valleys.

Officials emphasized that people with respiratory illness, young children, and older adults should take precautions, including staying indoors and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity. Motorists should slow down and exercise extra caution during morning commutes.

First Public Execution of Iranian Protester Set for Today

Soltani, arrested during demonstrations in Karaj last week, faces charges of “waging war against God” after a trial where he was denied legal representation. Human rights organizations report that his only apparent offense was joining calls for freedom amid widespread economic collapse and demands for regime change.

Protests erupted across Iran in late December 2025, fueled by soaring inflation, unemployment, and corruption under the ayatollahs’ rule. Informed sources told Iran International on Saturday night that Iranian security forces are using lethal force against protesters across the country, with early estimates pointing to mass casualties as a sweeping crackdown intensifies under a near-total internet shutdown.

Footage sent from Kahrizak, south of Tehran, shows several dead bodies in body bags. Eyewitnesses who provided the videos said dozens of bodies can be seen at the site, with additional bodies reportedly placed in another nearby industrial shed.

Earlier videos from Fardis, Karaj, and from Alghadir Hospital in eastern Tehran showed similar scenes of bodies on the ground, indicating what appears to be a mass killing unfolding in multiple locations, not limited to a few cities.

The internet blackout, which began on January 8, has made it nearly impossible to obtain a full picture of events. Still, the volume and consistency of reports reaching Iran International suggest that lethal force is being widely deployed to disperse protesters.

According to the news website, even the most conservative estimates indicate that at least 2,000 people have been killed in the past 48 hours.

Meanwhile, a protester on Saturday climbed the balcony of the Iranian Embassy in western London, BBC reported.

The incident occurred during a protest held outside the building. Two people were arrested at the protest, and an additional suspect was sought for trespassing.

US Senator Lindsey Graham, who is considered close to US President Donald Trump, promised Iranian protesters "help," promising that their nightmare will soon end.

"TO THE IRANIAN PEOPLE: your long nightmare is soon coming to a close," Graham wrote in a social media post. "Your bravery and determination to end your oppression has been noticed by @POTUS and all who love freedom."

US President Donald Trump announced that America "stands ready to help" since Iran "is looking at freedom," in a post on Truth Social on Saturday.

Admin officials have had preliminary discussions about how to carry out an attack on Iran if needed to follow through on Trump's threats. One option being discussed is a large-scale aerial strike on multiple Iranian military targets, sources told The Wall Street Journal on Saturday.

One official told The Wall Street Journal that an aerial strike on Iranian military assets was among the options under discussion. Another said there was no unified consensus on whether the administration would strike or what course of action to take, and that the US military had not made any moves in preparation for a strike.

Both officials told The Wall Street Journal that the administration was not planning an imminent attack on Iran, and that the discussions were part of normal planning.

Trump previously stated that if the Iranian regime forces "start killing people," the US will "hit them really hard" during an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show on Thursday.

IRGC forces arrest foreigner accused of spying for Israel

Iran's Revolutionary Guards' intelligence wing said it had arrested a foreigner suspected of spying for Israel, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Saturday.

Protests have spread across Iran since December 28 in response to soaring inflation and quickly turning political, with protesters demanding an end to clerical rule. Authorities accuse the US and Israel of fomenting unrest.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared his aim to taper off Israeli reliance on American aid, discussed Israel’s public perception crisis, and touched upon ongoing anti-regime protests in Iran during an interview with The Economist published on Friday.

For the first time in public, Netanyahu revealed that he may not seek to fully renew the 3.8 billion dollar American military assistance package that Israel receives annually. The package is due for renegotiation in 2028.

Netanyahu told The Economist that he plans to fully taper reliance on American support to zero within the next ten years, a move he claimed is already “in progress.”

The prime minister additionally assured that he “will continue to fight for the allegiance of the American people.”

Netanyahu also mentioned that he wants Israel to be “as independent as possible,” stating that reduced reliance on American financial aid may help in Israel’s fight to preserve a positive public perception.

“I’d like to do everything I can to fight the propaganda war waged against us,” Netanyahu told The Economist.

He described the uphill battle against misinformation as Israel using “cavalry against F-35s,” due to social media being “flooded… with the fake bots and many other things.”

“The vilifications that were delivered on Jewish people are now delivered on to Jewish state,” Netanyahu stated.

He elaborated on the history of the vilification of the Jewish people, recounting that since the Middle Ages, allegations that “we were poisoning the wells, we were spreading vermin, we were slaughtering Christian children for the Passover festival using their blood” have consistently proliferated.

The prime minister added that he believes Israel is held to “an impossible standard” when it comes to international judgment of the Israel-Hamas War, adding that he doubts “that Churchill could pursue World War Two if people saw what happened there.”

The prime minister shared that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas may ease international criticism of the Jewish State, predicting that “ the ease with which propaganda takes over facts, or fact-checking,” may dissipate “the minute the intense fighting stops.”

Netanyahu's comments on the Iranian threat

Netanyahu additionally commented on the Iranian threat and the anti-regime protests that are ongoing across Iran.

When asked about the possibility of regime change, Netanyahu stated that it is not Israel’s goal, but it could be the “consequence of the war.”

He reflected on the impact of the joint US-Israeli strikes that destroyed much of Iran’s nuclear capabilities in June 2025, stating that the strikes had relegated the regime from a preeminent power to a second-rate power.

Netanyahu added that the military defeat faced by Iran during the twelve-day war, paired with the “terrible mismanagement of their domestic affairs,” including “pouring billions and billions into the terror axis” while doing nothing for the benefit of the Iranian people, may have grave implications for the future of the regime.

“These two things are meeting now,” Netanyahu posited, “and it may be a moment where the people of Iran take charge of their own destiny. Revolutions are best done from within.”

Netanyahu denied that Israel has any plans to intervene as the Iranian people have taken to the streets to protest the regime, stating that he believes that close observations of the events in Iran are necessary.

He added that there is “one definite time when [Israel] would resume military activities. “If Iran attacks us, which they might, then there will be horrible consequences for Iran. Everything else, I think we should see what is happening inside Iran.”

Protesters are “ruining their own streets ... in order to please the president of the United States,” Khamenei said. “Because he said that he would come to their aid. He should pay attention to the state of his own country instead.”

My assessment suggests Iran has likely recovered to somewhere near its pre-war missile inventory – possibly even below that figure."

For years, Islamic Republic Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has prevented uranium enrichment to weapons-grade 90% purity and blocked development of miniaturized nuclear warheads capable of ballistic missile delivery.

A report published two weeks ago by Italian research institute ISPI, drawing on Tehran sources, revealed that Khamenei authorized miniaturized nuclear warhead development for ballistic missiles last October – while continuing to withhold approval for 90% enrichment. Meanwhile, intelligence suggests a clandestine enrichment program operates at an undeclared location, beyond International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reporting. Since Operation Rising Lion in June, the IAEA has faced severely restricted access to nuclear facilities.

Zimmt addressed the ballistic missile dimension as well. "This isn't purely a numbers game – missile characteristics matter enormously. How vulnerable are they to interception? Do they use solid fuel? What precision can they achieve? Production volume tells only part of the story. But my fundamental point stands – I don't perceive this as demanding immediate action. What troubles me more is that Iran's deteriorating domestic conditions heighten the danger of catastrophic misjudgment."

The senior researcher offered this analysis notwithstanding last week's meeting between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump, where they discussed Iran extensively. "The topic definitely arose, but establishing red lines was the critical question – defining precisely what conditions would trigger an Israeli or American military response if Iran persists in capability restoration. We haven't arrived at a juncture where Israel considers striking now an imperative."

"Obviously there's the argument for capitalizing on the current moment, given Iran's compromised air defense posture. But even there, I don't believe the clock demands action tomorrow. Iran may need additional time before presenting a threat magnitude Israel would classify as strategic," he concluded.

"What occurred in Venezuela, President Trump's readiness to deploy force when required to generate meaningful change, and Trump's rhetoric undoubtedly stimulate Israeli hopes that something comparable might unfold in Iran and trigger regime transformation."

They flooded the country with millions dependent on the Democratic Party’s largess — your tax dollars — and now they are doing everything possible to prevent the removal of this riffraff back to their countries of origin. Starting a civil war over it, in fact, because that’s what it’s come to. The federal agents tasked with the removal operation are apparenty not allowed to defend themselves when the LARPing street cadres attack them. There have been 66 car attacks against ICE officers since January, 2025. State and local officials in Minneapolis have behaved so dishonestly that federal investigators kicked them off what is now a federal case in the matter of “ICE-tracker” Renee Nicole Good, shot dead at the scene in her car. Minnesota will not be permitted to turn ICE agent Jonathan Ross into another Derek Chauvin. That sort of hustle is over.

What you can now discern in the winter darkness through fog of tear gas is that the Democratic Party will choose to destroy the country rather than face the consequences of its long-running crimes. Everybody knows now that the sort of social services grifts uncovered in Minnesota, with the kickbacks to Democratic politicians, have been going on all over America. The president has ordered an “all-of-government” effort to find the fraud and prosecute it, and you can assume the effort will tend to concentrate on the very states and cities where the Democratic Party dominates. Expect election fraud to bubble up in this cauldron. The evidence of a stolen 2020 election is finally emerging and converging with the larger illegal immigrant story.

It’s also clear now, that the NGO racket associated with all that is going to be dismantled — the money-stream from the likes of Soros & friends. They are going to get RICOed, their assets could be seized, and the public will learn a whole lot more about the damage they have done to the country. The Left’s NGOs not only support the on-the-ground street action, they also provide thousands of “executive” jobs and salaries to the Maoist nose-rings and transy-boys churned out of the higher ed diploma mills who are otherwise unemployable in any real economy with their race-and-gender studies diplomas.

The Democratic Party apparently realizes that the latest round of scandals and crimes might be its last rodeo. After a day of hearings this week, featuring several Minnesota politicos who testified about sketchy goings-on in the state, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FLA) launched criminal referrals against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and MN Attorney General Keith Ellison. That’s apart from whatever the DOJ has already been working on, and it is probably the beginning of a nation-wide web of prosecutions moving toward the midterm election that will drag in many other big dawgs of the party, including 2028 front-runner Gavin Newsom. The suicide of the Democratic Party has gone live, Donald Trump assisting.

At least six people are killed in Mississippi shooting rampage as gunman opens fire at three locations

At least six people were killed during a spree shooting in a northeastern Mississippi town on Friday night, authorities said.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said in a Facebook post early Saturday morning that law enforcement took an individual into custody and that there was 'no longer a threat to our community.'

The suspected shooter, Daricka M. Moore, 24, was booked into the Clay County jail at 3:25am on Saturday on a first degree murder charge.

Scott later told WTVA that the shooting took place at three different locations in West Point, a town of about 10,000 people.

Investigators told the outlet that the first shooting broke out on David Hill Road, where three people were killed.

The second happened on Blake Road, where one person died. The third took place on Siloam-Griffith Road, where two people died, police said.

'Unfortunately tonight we have dealt with tragedy in our community,' Scott wrote on social media. 'I ask that you lift our victims and their families in your prayers. Law enforcement is busy investigating and will release an update as soon as possible.'

With the initial absence of concrete details, residents reacted with horror over the tragedy and showed gratitude to the police officers who intervened.

'Thank you for the update. Such a horrible night for a family and community,' wrote Leslie Ann Mackey underneath the sheriff's post.

'Thank you all for your quick and dedicated response to this travesty. My prayers are with all the victims' families and for all of you offices (sic). You all worked diligently and professionally and the community is grateful for all of our officers. May God Bless our community,' wrote Gertrude Gaskin.

Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor?

Japan attacked the U.S Pacific Fleet at its base at Pearl Harbor on the 7th of December 1941, but what led to that decision? Why did the Japanese attack the USA? - The answer is oil.

Japan had been modernising its economy throughout the 20th century and wanted to build an empire of its own. However, Japan lacked the natural resources to make it a reality, with all but 6% of its oil supply being imported. After capturing Manchuria, Japan became bogged down in a full-scale war with China in 1937 and had to look elsewhere for the resources it needed to fight. Meanwhile, the USA was slowly awakening from its isolationism.

When Japan occupied French Indochina in 1941, America retaliated by freezing all Japanese assets in the states, preventing Japan from purchasing oil. Having lost 94% of its oil supply and unwilling to submit to U.S demands, Japan planned to take the oil needed by force. However, striking south into British Malaya and the Dutch East Indies would almost certainly provoke an armed U.S response. To blunt that response, Japan decided to attack the U.S Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, hoping that the U.S would negotiate peace.

The attack at Pearl Harbor was a huge gamble, but one which did not pay off. Though Japan took its objectives in the Pacific and Southeast Asia, the U.S did not respond as expected. Instead of reverting to isolationism, the U.S geared up for total war and Japan's fate was sealed.

'Comrade' Singham to face House subpoena as his CCP-tied network leads renewed anti-ICE protests

China may be helping astroturf far-left protests against ICE via a financial network in league with radical-left financier and multi-millionaire Neville Roy Singham. Singham funds a network of groups expressing anti-American sentiment. He will now face a Congressional subpoena.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., posted on Instagram earlier this week that “I have formally made a motion to subpoena Neville Singham, an American billionaire with ties to the CCP.” In her comments during the House Oversight Committee session on Wednesday, Luna said that Singham “has been funding extremist organizations fueling division and civil unrest in this country and especially regarding the ICE riots last summer.”

House Committee approves subpoena to Singham

Luna made her case to the House committee on Wednesday about why Singham should be compelled to testify, and the motion to issue a subpoena was approved by a voice vote. That vote also included approval of unrelated subpoenas, including targets of the Jeffrey Epstein matter.

“Neville Singham was referred to the Department of Justice, I believe, for FARA [Foreign Agents Registration Act] violations by then Senator Rubio when he served on the … Senate Intelligence Committee,” Luna said. “Neville Singham, regardless of what you might feel about your colleagues, has been a mechanism and funding arm of the Chinese Communist Party.”

Luna added: “He’s not a registered agent under FARA, and has been connected to a number of riots, including the anti-ICE riots being funded in Los Angeles … and has been avoiding our request to have him come bring information to Congress. He is definitely someone that is anti-American ideologically… and is funding groups known to sow discord in this country… He is a known foreign agent to China. … He should face a subpoena. … In the event that he does not comply with this subpoena, I will be making a motion for inherent contempt.”

Rep. David Min, D-Calif., briefly raised concerns on Wednesday about the process by which Luna’s motion was being brought, but Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., intervened and recommended that the Democrats vote yes.

Luna added that Singham has been avoiding receipt of the House’s request for information for months and has been funding groups aimed at dividing Americans.

The House Oversight Committee had previously sent a June 2025 letter to Singham, lamenting that “the Biden Department of Justice failed to curb your support of civil unrest, and your activities have recently expanded to include the foment of unrest and civil disobedience in Los Angeles—prompting President Trump to call in the National Guard to counterattacks on federal law enforcement officials.”

“The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is investigating your reported funding of various extremist entities in the United States. Reportedly, you have supported these groups with the aim of causing destruction and division in our country — including most recently through ongoing riots and violence in Los Angeles, California,” the House letter to Singham said. “Moreover, the Committee is concerned that you may be engaging in such activities on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party — and that your activity may violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act.”

The letter demanded Singham hand over “all documents and communications referencing any form of agreement between you among or between the PSL, the People’s Forum, the ANSWER Coalition, and any group with ties to the CCP.”

Luna had said Wednesday that Singham ignored them.

Singham-sponsored groups organizing protests

A review by Just the News found that many of the anti-ICE protests which quickly sprang up on Wednesday and Thursday were organized and promoted by the far-left Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), with help from the Marxist revolutionary group known as The People’s Forum, and with some participation from the radical anti-war group Code Pink and the leftist Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition.

Singham married Jodie Evans, the co-founder of Code Pink, in 2017. Her group touts itself as antiwar and has become increasingly pro-China in recent years.

Just the News previously reported on how these and other radical activist groups have leadership links or financial ties to a funding network backed by wealthy Marxist businessman Neville Roy Singham, who himself has connections to the CCP. Coincidentally or fortuitously, the GOP-led House Oversight Committee voted on Thursday to subpoena Singham for information about this sprawling activist network.

FBI Director Kash Patel told Just the News on Thursday that his agents are investigating the organizers and funders of anti-immigration enforcement protests for impeding law enforcement activities and endangering public safety.

The PSL says it has dozens of chapters nationwide — and it has activated them to protest ICE and to combat the Trump Administration’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.

The PSL is closely tied to a number of groups which are part of Singham’s funding network, including the Marxist-oriented People’s Forum and the far-left BreakThrough News media outlet — both of which also quickly swung into anti-ICE action. The forum is a Marxist revolutionary group that is pro-Communism, pro-China, and anti-Israel — and it played a key role in organizing anti-ICE protests in New York City on Wednesday and picketing against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem in Manhattan on Thursday.

Just the News previously reported last year that the PSL — which openly calls for revolution to bring down the current American system and which publicly sympathizes with murderous Communist regimes — had been a leader in organizing and fueling anti-ICE demonstrations in Los Angeles as well as in other cities nationwide in 2025.

Just the News also reported this week about how Chinese state-run propaganda outlets are promoting U.S. protests against the Trump Administration’s arrest of Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro — and about how those anti-Trump and pro-Maduro protests are also being organized by the same Singham financial network.

The PSL, BreakThrough News, and the People’s Forum did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

CCP-linked network quickly activates same day as ICE shooting, call it "murder"

The PSL seemed to take the anti-ICE protest lead for the Singham network on Wednesday, hours after the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent after she allegedly disobeyed law enforcement orders to exit her vehicle and drove at an agent standing in front of her car.

“BREAKING: ICE agents have shot and killed a legal observer while conducting a raid in Minneapolis. Video evidence clearly shows that ICE is lying when they claim self-defense,” the PSL tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “The ICE operation in the city is part of a racist crackdown directed especially at Somalis in the city. We demand that these murderers leave our communities immediately and stop kidnapping our neighbors!”

The post on X included a graphic declaring “ICE Murderers Out of Our Communities” and the tweet was reshared by the ANSWER Coalition.

The PSL soon claimed that “the video evidence confirms this was a cold-blooded murder, and any claim that the ICE killer was acting in self-defense is an outrageous lie.” The group added: “The ICE operation in the city is part of a racist crackdown directed especially at Somalis in the city. We demand that these murderers leave our communities immediately and stop kidnapping our neighbors!”

Ramping up outrage, protests nationwide

The PSL also touted an anti-ICE march in Tucson featuring a large protest headed by a group carrying a large PSL banner, and also promoted Wednesday marches in Seattle and Boston with video of the protests where numerous PSL signs were displayed. The socialist group also promoted videos of Wednesday marches in Milwaukee, Columbus, New York, and elsewhere.

The PSL also retweeted a post by leftwing activist Claudia De La Cruz — PSL’s presidential nominee in the 2024 race against Donald Trump and Kamala Harris — arguing that “we must urgently organize and mobilize our communities to stand up and say enough is enough. Justice for Renee Nicole Good!”

De La Cruz said in a 2024 interview about her campaign as the PSL nominee to be U.S. president that “I co-founded and co-directed … the People’s Forum.” The forum says that De la Cruz “is a central committee member of The Party for Socialism and Liberation” and that “in 2018, she co-founded The People’s Forum.” De La Cruz is listed as a director at the forum in tax records.

The “Program of the Party for Socialism and Liberation” — essentially PSL’s political platform — declares that the group’s members are “Marxists in the United States.” The platform is heavy on calls for Communist revolution.

Blending Minnesota ICE shooting with Maduro's capture

The People’s Forum also took quick action on Wednesday. The forum’s director, Manolo De Los Santos, declared on X that “the cold blooded killing of a woman by ICE in Minneapolis and Trump’s bombing of over 100 people in Venezuela are connected acts of the same brutal machine. We must dismantle the U.S. empire, or it will dismantle us.”

The Manhattan-based People’s Forum tweeted on Wednesday that “ICE murdered a legal observer in Minneapolis this morning. We won't allow ICE terror in our communities. TAKE THE STREETS TONIGHT!” This was reposted by the ANSWER Coalition.

“NOW: just hours after the brutal ICE murder of Renee Nicole Good, New Yorkers have taken the [sic] streets to make it heard loud and clear: from Minneapolis to NYC—Stop ICE terror!” the forum tweeted later in the day. “We won’t stand for ICE to murder our people and terrorize our communities.”

In the video shared by the forum, Santos claimed that “Renee’s killers weren’t just the ones wearing ICE uniforms today. Renee’s murder is state-sanctioned murder. Renee’s murder has Trump’s signature on it.”

The forum announced its future protests on Wednesday, saying on X that “tomorrow, Kristi Noem, the leader of ICE, is coming to NYC. Join us in Foley Square at 9AM to tell her she isn’t welcome here! ICE OUT OF NEW YORK!”

The People’s Forum said in a follow-on tweet: “TELL KRISTI NOEM: YOU'RE NOT WELCOME HERE—EMERGENCY RALLY TOMORROW! ... ICE OUT OF NEW YORK, ICE OUT OF EVERYWHERE!”

Code Pink also got in on the action, with co-founder Medea Benjamin posting that “this is what state terrorism really looks like. … ICE out of our communities! Now!

The Singham-linked BreakThrough News outlet — closely tied to the People’s Forum — also documented and promoted anti-ICE protests throughout the day on Wednesday. The tax forms for the outlet show that many of the group’s top leaders are all tied to the PSL as well.

BreakThrough News posted multiple times about a Minneapolis vigil for Good on Wednesday, and tweeted that evening, “HAPPENING NOW: Impromptu march erupts in Minneapolis for Renee Nicole Good, killed by ICE.”

The outlet also promoted anti-ICE marches on Wednesday located in Milwaukee, New York City, San Antonio, Columbus, Portland, Chicago, Seattle, Anchorage, Tucson and New Orleans.

The People’s Forum proceeded to share multiple videos of their anti-ICE and anti-Noem protest in New York City — calling it a “massive picket at World Trade Center” — with numerous PSL signs being waved by protesters.

Manolo De Los Santos led a call-and-response at the Thursday protest: “There’s a cold-blooded murderer giving a press conference on the 50th floor — Kristi Noem whose hands are not even dry yet with the blood of our sister Renee.” Santos referred to ICE as “her army of thugs, killers, and kidnappers.”

BreakThrough News also posted a video stating that “NYC marches against Head of DHS Kristi Noem. Noem is delivering a press conference at NYC ICE headquarters today just one day after the murder of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.”

About Neville “Comrade” Singham and the CCP

Singham, the wealthy tech executive, is lauded by The People's Forum and others as a true Marxist.

“For months we’ve been the target of a campaign that alleges our funding comes from ‘dark money.’ A few years ago we met Roy Singham, a Marxist comrade who sold his company & donated most of his wealth to non-profits that focus on political education, culture, & internationalism,” the People’s Forum tweeted in December 2021.

The New York Times reported that Singham works in Shanghai, that his efforts there are linked to the CCP, and that he has attended at least one CCP workshop on promoting the party globally.

The outlet also said Singham shares offices with a Chinese media company called Maku Group. The Chinese group’s “About Us” page — which has since been deleted but which was archived by the Wayback Machine in 2023 — says the goal of the company is to promote a positive vision of China worldwide.

Singham also wrote that he had served on the Central Committee of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers. The league, according to the Marxists Internet Archive, “played a key role in inspiring the Black Liberation Movement and spreading Marxist-Leninist ideas among Black workers and workers in general.” Singham reportedly worked as a “strategic technical consultant” with the Chinese government-linked Chinese telecom giant Huawei from 2001 to 2008, according to New Lines Magazine.

Then-senator and now Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the Biden Justice Department that “it appears that organizations tied to Neville Roy Singham, a U.S. citizen, have been receiving direction from the CCP.”

“I categorically deny and repudiate any suggestion that I am a member of, work for, take orders from, or follow instructions of any political party or government or their representatives,” Singham told The New York Times in 2023. “I am solely guided by my beliefs, which are my long-held personal views.”

With Singham’s socialist militant groups again leading nationwide protests, and with the House now prepared to issue the Marxist businessman a congressional subpoena, the spotlight on these revolutionaries, the organization and funding of the anti-Ice and pro-Maduro protests and their links to the CCP will likely only continue to grow.

Hidden threat from secret military base discovered lurking deep below Greenland's ice sheet

Scientists are sounding urgent alarms over a hidden Cold War threat buried deep beneath Greenland's rapidly melting ice sheet.

A long-abandoned US military base known as Camp Century was recently rediscovered under the ice after a NASA pilot conducting airborne radar tests captured images of its underground remains.

The base, built in secret during the Cold War, lies about 118 feet below the surface and spreads across an area roughly 0.7 miles long and 0.3 miles wide.

Once described as a self-contained underground town, Camp Century housed a hospital, theater, church and shop, and was powered by a small nuclear reactor.

As Greenland's ice melts at accelerating rates, scientists have warned that hazardous waste left behind at the site could eventually be released into the environment.

That waste includes chemical pollutants, biological sewage, diesel fuel, and radioactive material once thought to be safely sealed in ice forever.

Researchers now say that assumption was deeply flawed. 'What climate change did was press the gas pedal to the floor,' said James White, a climate scientist at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Camp Century was constructed in the late 1950s with the knowledge of both the US and Danish governments under the 1951 Defense of Greenland Agreement.

Danish officials participated in planning and environmental monitoring, and historical reports indicate Denmark approved the disposal of some radioactive waste directly into the ice.

At the time, scientists and military planners believed Greenland's ice sheet would permanently entomb any contamination.

'That idea, that waste could be buried forever under ice, is unrealistic,' White said.

'The question is whether it's going to come out in hundreds of years, thousands of years, or tens of thousands of years. Climate change just means it's going to happen much faster than anyone expected.'

The environmental risk posed by Camp Century has taken on new urgency as geopolitical tensions in the Arctic intensify.

President Donald Trump renewed calls this week for US control of Greenland, citing national security concerns as Russian and Chinese activity in the region grows. 'It's so strategic,' Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday.

'Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security.'

But scientists said the buried base represents a very different kind of security threat, one tied not to military rivals, but to pollution unleashed by a warming climate.

A team of international researchers led by the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder estimated that Camp Century contains roughly 9,200 tons of physical waste, including abandoned buildings, tunnels, and rail infrastructure.

The site also holds about 200,000 liters of diesel fuel and significant amounts of polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, toxic chemicals once widely used in paints and electrical equipment.

PCBs are especially concerning because they do not break down easily and are linked to cancer, immune system damage, and developmental problems.

The Arctic's cold climate has trapped these chemicals for decades, effectively turning the region into a global storage site for pollution released elsewhere.

As ice melts, however, scientists warned that glaciers could become a new source of toxic contamination.

Most former Arctic military sites have undergone cleanup efforts, but Camp Century is one of only five abandoned ice-sheet bases near Thule Air Base that have never been remediated, according to the 2016 study by the CIRES research team.

At similar sites, PCB concentrations in some paints exceeded five percent by weight.

In addition to chemical and biological waste, Camp Century also contains radioactive material from the nuclear reactor's coolant system.

When it was buried in the early 1960s, the waste had a radioactivity of about 1.2 billion becquerels, roughly equivalent to the radiation used in a single medical scan.

While small compared to major nuclear accidents, researchers cautioned that its presence adds another layer of risk if containment fails.

The base's tunnel system twists and branches beneath the ice, making it difficult to fully map.

Airborne radar has detected strong reflections that align with known tunnel locations, but scientists say the technology cannot yet identify all buried waste.

Diesel fuel, stored in underground tanks, may still be liquid today, though researchers believe the tanks may have ruptured.

Models suggest that ice flow and snow accumulation could bury solid waste as deep as 220 feet and liquid waste around 305 feet by 2090.

While that means contamination may not surface for decades, scientists stressed that burial does not equal safety.

Beyond the environmental risks, Camp Century has become a source of political and legal uncertainty.

Responsibility for the cleanup remains disputed between the US, Denmark, and Greenland.

While the waste was left behind by the US, the original 1951 treaty did not account for climate change or Greenland's growing self-governance.

The agreement states that US property in Greenland may be removed or disposed of after consultation with Danish authorities.

But it remains unclear whether Denmark was fully consulted during Camp Century's decommissioning, raising questions about whether the abandoned waste is still legally US property.

Tornadoes tear across Mississippi as major storm threatens millions with severe weather, flash flooding

JACKSON, Miss. — A powerful line of thunderstorms produced at least two radar-confirmed tornadoes in Mississippi around 6:30 a.m. CT.

These storms were powered by a cold front from a cross-country storm that’s delivering heavy rounds of rain to millions east of the Mississippi River, as parts of the Deep South and Gulf Coast remain in the bullseye for significant flash flooding and severe storms through Friday.

Tornado Warnings were issued across parts of Mississippi and Louisiana on Friday morning.

No word on the extent of any damage or injuries.

Damaging wind gusts are expected to remain the main threat of severe storms, but more tornadoes are possible.

This comes after the first cross-country storm spawned at least four tornadoes across Oklahoma on Thursday.

Meanwhile, an intense corridor of flash flooding will be possible Friday into Saturday across southern Mississippi near Hattiesburg and south of Jackson, according to the FOX Forecast Center.

Over eight million people are under a 2 out of 5 severe storm risk that is in place across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and western Tennessee, with the highest risk extending from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, north to Memphis, Tennessee, and east to Birmingham, Alabama.

The continued threat of tornadoes comes after a strong EF-1 tornado ripped through Purcell, Oklahoma, as a line of storms moved through the area.

Though no one was injured, the tornado left a trail of destruction, downing power lines and uprooting trees.

The National Weather Service offices in Norman and Tulsa are still surveying damage, but confirmed three other tornadoes near the Oklahoma City area.

In a classic set up for severe weather in the South, multiple rounds of storms are expected Friday from the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf Coast, elevating the threat of flash flooding.

The first round will arrive on Friday morning to midday, followed by another round later in the afternoon and overnight.

Given the abundant moisture and the likelihood of repeated rounds of storms, flash flooding remains a concern across middle Tennessee, northern Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Rainfall totals will generally range from 2 to 3 inches across most of the Tennessee Valley; however, isolated pockets could see totals reach up to 5 inches.

However, the greatest threat covers parts of southern Mississippi, where NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level 3 out of 4 risk of flash flooding.

A corridor from Jackson to Hattiesburg could see rain rates of up to 3 inches per hour Friday, the FOX Forecast Center said.

Flood Watches are now up from New Orleans through Nashville, extending over 600 miles.

Many of the areas included in flood watches are currently in a drought, increasing the risk for flash flooding as the expected rainfall rates may exceed what the dry ground can absorb.

Severe weather may continue into Saturday as the cold front moves east.

A level 1 out of 5 severe storm risk is already in place across parts of Georgia and the Carolinas.

As the storm exits the region, the possibility of flash flooding remains across east Tennessee and western North Carolina.

Moscow accuses the US of “outright piracy” after it seized a tanker linked to Russia

In a sharp escalation of international tensions, the United States military carried out an operation in the North Atlantic to seize a Russian-flagged oil tanker in the waters between Iceland and the United Kingdom.

They also criticized what they view as Western overreach, expressing outrage that the operation occurred despite a Russian naval presence, including a submarine said to have been escorting the tanker.

U.S. and U.K. officials, for their part, defended the mission as lawful and necessary to uphold sanctions that target illicit oil shipments tied to countries like Venezuela, Iran, and Russia.

The British Ministry of Defence confirmed its forces provided pre-planned operational support to the U.S. effort, including naval and Royal Air Force surveillance assistance. While the tanker was reportedly empty at the time of capture, its seizure is seen as a symbolic and strategic blow against networks that Washington says fund destabilizing activities.
